Why did Win 7 install my 64bit app in the Program Files x86 folder?

Hi all,

i've installed Adobe Premiere CS4 on my new computer with Windows 7 Home edition. CS4 is a 64bit app. During install I assumed that Windows would determine the best destination.

2 questions: why did Windows decide to install it in the x86 Program Files folder, which is normally for 32bit apps?

Will Premiere still be able to take advantage of the 64bit processing if its running from the x86 folder? or should I reinstall?

Actually, not all of CS4 is 64-bit. Photoshop CS4 has a 64-bit version but I don't believe the other programs are 64-bit in CS4. Not sure about what CS5 will bring.

I think Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 is 32 bit, Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 is 64 bit only.

It doesn't really matter which of the two it is installed to.

Yes, look at the Processes tab in Task Manager. In Windows 7 64 bit, 32 bit processes will have a "*32" in their name.

ps: I just checked online: "Although they were not natively 64-bit applications, Adobe After Effects CS4 and Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 have been optimized for 64-bit computers" ....Maybe that's why Premiere CS4 was installed in the x86 folder.

That's correct. They are 32-bit applications, and went where all well-behaved 32-bit apps belong...in the x86 folder on 64-bit Windows machines.
