Why do ip address changes time to time?

Is there any reason for it? It's general question.

My friend told because of efficiency. But I didn't quite understand .

I am referring to dynamic ip address.

Are you talking about internet IP or your local IP from the router? The principal is the same the DHCP server normally the router gives out IP on lease when the lease expires you would get another IP which may be the same or not as when expires it may be given to another pc that needs an IP. Most router you can set it to give same IP again

In mobile ISP, they are changing every minute. In broadband connection to desktop, IP not changing.
Looks like you are new to IP address subject because you didn't mention ipv6 etc.

The IP address is not owned by the computer, it is generated by the ISP every time the connection is borrowed, or leased. Dynamic IP address is said to be easier to administer by the ISP.

Isp have to change it as there are limited IP so as soon as you logoff your IP is free so. They can reuse it often home broad band as you are on a lot they often give you the same IP. Not all ISP support ipv6

In mobile, I am getting multiple new ip address , so how to understand that? Are they giving so many ip's so hacker won't trace my mobile?

If your mobile as you connect to a different tower it may well issue a new ip as its a new connection

Dynamic IP addresses are much easier to administer. In fact dynamic IP address assignment was developed for that reason.

Look at this as an ISP:
You have several thousand clients. You need to maintain a database of your clients and the IP address assigned. The database must be updated as clients come and go. This takes time and mistakes will be made. The client must manually enter the assigned IP address and DNS IP addresses. You can be sure some will get it wrong, such as entering the wrong numbers or entering them in the wrong place. Your busy support staff will be spending time to resolve these issues.

And there is more.

With dynamic IP address assignment you don't have those problems. Dynamic IP addresses are the default in most computers so the client doesn't need to enter anything. The ISP DHCP server takes care of all the IP address management. Less work for you and your clients and there will be fewer problems. Better for everybody.

Edit Those are the problems with computers at a fixed location. With cell phones and laptop computers connecting to the Internet at multiple locations the problems with static IP addresses are much worse.

If they enter wrong address, internet won't connect for them. So they call ISP to know their IP. As simple as that. I didn't see any static ip problem here.

Problem with static is limited number of IP addresses to give out. Second, if you move location, you might not necessarily bring statically IP address with you.

It's FAR from simple. To begin with, most people don't know what an IP address is at all, it's normal that the average user will just call saying "my internet don't works, help!" without any idea that the root cause is a wrong IP.
So the support staff must walk though all the troubleshoting they do now (check the cable, reset modem and the like), plus check if you have the right IP address set. Plus, they have to guide the user on how to do that (you can't expect the average user to know that, really), so you have to know it for all imaginable OSs out there (Win7, Win10, XP, OS X, various Linux flavours, Android, iOS and some more), the real difficulty in doing this is enormous. For a home network where you're the only user with few devices, it's enough, but for a ISP-wide network, it's simply not feasible. DHCP and dynamic IPs solve that.
There is also the problem that someone will mistake their IP and put a duplicate one, now both computers won't connect, so you now have 2 angry clients instead of one, and the chance of a customer DOSing another. ISPs don't want that.

Another problem dynamic IPs solve is that of mobile computers. Notebooks, tablets and cellphones all have wifi and roam around frequently, connecting to different networks. Imagine that for each wifi you see you have to ask the owner for an IP address for you? Or be asked for them when you bring people home? And teach yourself how to set it? And don't forget that when you get back home, you have to set it back to your own IP. Again, not feasible, it won't escale.
Nowadays wifi networks are passed along by providing a network name and a password. With static IPs only, you also need to give one, but you can't write it down, because it must be unique for each user! You have to calculate one considering the current connected people and make sure don't give out duplicates. A DHCP server does exactly this automatically for you.

In short, there are times when you simply don't care which IP you have, but only that you have a valid one, and those happen to be the majority of times, hence DHCP was created for this very same reason. It solves a problem humans alone are bad at and gives valid addresses to anyone asking, removing the need of people to attend those details. Most people simply don't care what's their IP, as long as Google opens up.
When there is a real need for a fixed IP, you ask for it, or use the default varying one, that's the simple alternative.

Most home Internet users have a dynamic IP address. Some ISPs will give the option of a static IP at additional cost. Many will not. Many ISPs have a shortage of IP addresses and are unable to obtain more. Most home users have at best only a vague idea of what an IP address even is and have no idea how to enter it. Explaining all that would take time. And to an ISP this time is expensive. In many cases the home user wouldn't even try and would require the assistance of a friend or relative.

Dynamic IP addresses remove most of those problems. Static IP addresses have few advantages and many more problems.

A major reason for the use of dynamic IP addresses is the oldest of all, Cost.

Most home users are not online all the time, they login and off at various times, the shared lease system allows the ISP to meet the needs of multiple users with less actual IP addresses. The reason for this is also very simple, the ISP has to buy the use of the IP address pools they use from the licencing authorities. This also causes the higher cost of fixed IP addresses,,

Imagine a user who works all day comes home then checks their eMails and other messages then switches off. If the user is allocated their own personal IP address then for most of the day the IP address will not be available for others to use even when it is not in use by the original - thus the charge for it's use will be higher.

The costs are kept lower if the IP addresses are allocated as required and re-allocated when they are finished with, (there is often a set time period that delays the withdrawal of the IP address for a set time after it is last used to prevent issue with availability due to outside influences)

then Others will pick some ip address. Are you trying to say that allocated ip getting wastage?

Some ISPs are better run than others, they pay for a larger pool of addresses so have more available for use by it's customers. Others save money on the numbers of addresses they purchase which can result in less that perfect connections for the end user

The actual IP address you are using is irrelevant to the internet as a whole, the packets of information carry data as to where the reply should return to in addition to the actual data, Every device on the internet has it's Unique MAC address that is part of the data so whatever IP address you have it will be routed correctly.

The only reason that a user would require a specific fixed IP address is if they are running some type of always available service, this could be a personal or business website or even games servers, these are required to be online at all times to be of any use and also have an assigned Website name.so that they are easier to find

I need to run my systems here 24/7 and do so on a dynamic IP Address, without issues, the system rarely changes the address used as the delay from my ISP is quite long, but even if the IP does change it would not affect my work - My website is hosted on a server that is on a fixed IP address and is always available, the website hosting costs more than the Dynamic option but is a business tax deduction ;)

I didn't understand this line "Every device on the internet has it's Unique MAC address" , are you referring to internet devices like router etc?

What does used as delay mean in third para?

Google does not search for the name of the site, It uses a system called DNS to convert the name to an IP address - it then finds the site by it's IP address. If you search for keywords then it uses a list of the keywords that it has assigned to each site, google regularly indexes the whole of the internet and organises the data to make ta search possible.

The only disadvantage of a Fixed IP address is that it cost more to provide to the end user than an Dynamic address, in all other ways it is supeirior
