Why do some thread starters do not report (...)?!

Ok how do you mark a thread as solved

You should see a red (yellow on some themes for the site) triangle in the upper-right corner of every post. There are three (sometimes two) buttons in the corner of every post. It will always be the one on the right of the others.

Is this only available in certain forum areas as I have never seen it and I have looked all over for an option like this. I know on my forums I actually install this into only the technical areas so to speak and then you find it at the bottom left of the thread. However I run different software to this being used here

Oh is that how you guys are doing it here :p We only allow that to be used for reporting abusive and spam threads. I was looking for the solved icon all this time no wonder I got confused. The poor mods must have plenty of work getting all this manual information and having to do it each time for every member :o

I will make a point of doing it this way in future thanks

It was on such small things that I mentioned in post # 4 this thread! I'm glad that the exchange of views and personal experiences are making room for doubt never mentioned and other things that show it was worth having opened this thread.

No biggie mate - they're all different. Not marking as solved isn't the biggest crime in the world.

Especially when you can read a thread and you can tell it came to a conclusion anyway.

Some of us are over 27, and have been around a while, and maybe admined on forums. It's not uncommon for posters to ask questions, and never post again. Either they got their answer and are gone, or perhaps they posted multiple places, and forgot the others when they got their answer.

I think on the internet, those who have bad behavior, or rude , or unthankful behavior, have those traits magnified by the anonymity. Whereas face to fasce, they are forced to at least show some civility, on the internet they have little repercussion for poor behavior. Especially when they have what they wanted.

But there are also those who are not used to posting on forums, and in fact, may avoid it due to personality, aversion, shyness, etc. They may just be unfamiliar with protocol. I tend to assume the latter is the case, and believe the best of people unless they prove otherwise. Hoping they got their problem solved, and are left a little better off for it. Much better to think you helped someone, even if they didn't acknowledge it :D

I would like to second those sentiments. Just one thing bugs me a bit though, often when I read a thread for the first time I look at the OP's other posts and so often they have asked questions, had a reply, not bothering to acknowledge the reply before asking their next question. These members are often quite clearly fully conversant with how a Forum works.
End of Gripe! I try to rmember that it takes all sorts to make the world go round!
