Why does device manager showing duplicates?

Needless to say from the thread title, I only have one mouse and one keyboard plugged-in. Everything works correctly, but was just curious if there's any particular reason why this is happening.

I believe what you are showing us is the Devices & Printers window. It would be interesting to see if the devices show twice in the Device Manager (Start > Control Panel > Hardware & Sound > Device Manager)

I've seen this happen when 2 different drivers are installed for the same device: one is a generic Windows driver that gets installed when Windows discovers new hardware and installs the driver for it, and a second when the user installs the manufacturer's driver afterward. This should not happen, but sometimes it does. I suspect poorly written driver software.

Since this is a mouse and keyboard you could experiment with removing one of each. You will not be offered the option to remove a working mouse or keyboard in Devices and Printers, but the doppelganger may show the Remove Device option.

If that is not an option then let us know what you find in the Device Manager. Particularly under Properties > Driver that might give a clue.

software for tuning mouse & keyboard

i don't know the brand of mouse or keyboard you use, but i have the same thing for my logitech mouse and keyboard. the mouse is a gaming mouse so logitech adds functionality for shifting dpi on the fly but this can only be used when logitech gaming software is loaded. so everytime it is loaded, there would be a "blog" "blog" sound then 2 mouses n 2 keyboards are listed in device manager. this is normal, one mouse is the logitech mouse that holds the software setting, the other is windows to detect basic mouse function. if you want device driver to list just 1, simply disable the mouse/keyboard software from the start-up list. cc cleaner can do this, as well as windows own MSconfig. but then, added functionality can't be used, just the regular mouse/keyboard functions.

I have a Logitech Keyboard and mouse. I show 2 Mouse and 3 keyboards. It has to do with the Logitech software, which has already been mentioned. When first plugged in, Windows installs generic drivers, then when the Logitech software is installed it shows up again. Then, with mine, Logitech downloaded some kind of 'unifying' software, so I now show 3 keyboards. I know how to fix it, but it works fine and causes no problems. My opinion is if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Same here. I have a Logitech G110 wired USB keyboard and it shows up twice. The curious thing is my Logitech M525 mice (mouses, meeces?) work off a single Unifying receiver (I use one mouse at my desk and the other in bed when reading off my TV screen) but only the receiver shows up...once. Everything works just fine and dandy so I see no sense in risking messing something up trying to fix it.

yes, it seems that it only happens with the G (gaming) logitech devices, lady fitzgerald's M variant mouse has no duplicates.

My device manager does not show duplicates for my meese or keyboard, but my bios does. Both are Logitech.
