Why does IE8 take sooo loong to open a new tab?

I've been using Google Chrome for the last while and have generally been happy with it, unfortunately it does not support speech recognition for dictation so i'm looking to use IE8 again.
problem is using IE8 is painful because whenever i right-click on something and select "open in new tab", IE8 is unresponsive for two-three seconds until it opens that tab, meaning if you need to open a bunch of tabs it is very very painful.
how can I fix that?

IE8 is laggy compared to Opera and Chrome, simple fact.

Some users notice it, others don't.

Opera has voice commands and an integrated eMail client by the way

damn. fortunately ff is compatible.
Problem is I really want to have as few applications as possible installed to help improve battery life and performance.
here's a battery life comparison for netbooks.

OF course i have speech turned off on battery, but I don't want to be switching browsers all the time

Does this happen every single time you open the tab or at random times? I sometimes get the "Connecting..." tab in IE but it doesn't happen that often.

You can try this fix that has worked for others.

open an elevated command prompt and type in;

regsvr32 actxprxy.dll

Hit enter and reboot.

There's no sudo in the command prompt, you elevate before running it.

Is it maybe add-ons causing the issue? Review & disable any unnecessary add-ons. I think in IE8 you can actually see how long each add-on is taking to load......worth a look whilst you wait for IE10

Yeah, by default there should be no perceptable delay in opening a new tab. There isn't on mine.

Antivirus and other kinds of programs/plugins can slow things down though I have MSE, Flash and Acrobat installed myself and it seems perfectly snappy.

Frequently it's a case of installing a clean copy of 7 on a spare HD (do NOT "automatically activate when on line) then installing stuff one by one and see which one does it. Then you can decide if you want the offenting program/plugin on your regular machine ot or not.

I removed and disable Accelerators and disabled most of my extensions and it helped a bit, but it's still pretty slow. the only extensions i have enabled are: Flash, Acrobat, and java.

You could always try the reset button in options. That has worked for me in past when IE starts acting up.

Maybe try disabling java as a test.

I believe that each window is opened in it's own virtual running context, so something ike the Java engine may be instantiated/initialized for each tab seperately.

yeah, I think java fixed it.
from right-clicking to selecting open in new tab to new tab opening is about under a second, which is more manageable
