why does my cpu max out at 100% on Bad Company 2

Like Vierasniper said what else is running while you are playing. I know that the frostbite engine is a bit heavy and will use as much CPU as it can when possible do you also have the latest drivers for your motherboard, video and sound card?

Probably because you have a Core 2 Duo. I have an Athlon II x4 and it reaches around 80% (Avg of all core usage).

This more than anything. BFBC2 is one of the few truly mutli-threaded games and will happily use and run better on a quad core. One of the big CPU user's from that game is the audio, which will basically use one core itself in a quad core,

Performance

Naturally, doing all of the audio processing in software puts the CPU under some extra strain. Since Xbox360/PS3 has fixed hardware and both have multiple cores available to do many things in parallel, you could say this is only an issue for the PC SKU where we may end up having less cores than on console. In Bad Company, all audio processing is performed sequentially on a single hardware thread regardless of platform. For PC this means that a CPU with a higher frequency will help more than one with more cores. But of course, there are other areas of the game that execute in parallel, so having more than 2 cores will help the game in general. This is an area we're constantly looking to improve and the results of our efforts will show up in future titles.

i am not running anything, i turned off the antivirus, i have game booster that turns off the rest..

i have found a lot of Quad Core gamers that complained about all 4 core being maxed out.. one had a top i7 quad.. same thing. the consensus is that there is a bug that plagues a lot of machines but not all.

i open the game and it takes 15-20 seconds to start moving at all then real jerky for a minute or so.. then it works pretty good. then i shut down the game and reboot the game.. then the CPU drops to 80% and it works great on highest setting.

i have a 1G GPU. e8400 intel CPU. Rampage Formula mobo. 8Gb Ram i built this just before the quad cores came out,. couple before i believe..
