Why does the HDMI out on my laptop..

Look worse than the VGA out on my laptop? The HDMI out has black bars on the left, right, bottom and top. The VGA looks crisp and clear and fills the whole screen on my TV. Why?

Do you have the latest drivers for your graphics card? Are the cables cut/bent, etc?

that is a very good question on hdmi. its not just your laptop, i have at&t uverse tv and internet, connecting the uverse box to tv by hdmi connection same thing black bars on the side, but connecting it by cable full screen picture. hdmi is suppose to be high definition but i see no different in quality of picture on either connection. wide screen puts the black bars on top and bottom.
