I am using Netflix and Hulu and I also have some Xvid movies on my machine.

When I watch them on the PC I have a 4890 Quad Core 3.2 with 8gb ram the quality of the images looks pixelated on the computer screen.

However if I stream this over Playon or through my game console PS3 and 360 on my bigger Tv's it looks much crisper and cleaner.

Why would it look like crap on my PC?

I have a brand new 1080p Asus 24inch HDMI Monitor as well in 1900x1080

Probably because you sit closer to it, and your monitor probably has much better quality potential than your TV. On a better quality monitor you will notice more defects in the video.

Of course this is assuming you have quality codecs installed, and proper display/driver settings.

All of my systems still run fastest on XP 32-bit for the most part. Win7 is fun to play with, but I still prefer XP for raw speed, security, and functionality.

I'm using windows 7 default codecs and players like VLC. What other codecs would make it look cleaner?

It is the proximity of your eyes to the monitor with it's enhanced resolution.

Try moving back about 10 feet - I had the same issue when watching stuff on my rig until I figured that out (after going back to my bed and watching The Dark Knight in Blu-Ray from ~13 feet away and realizing that it looked perfectly fine back there).

As for Codecs, well, I used to use The Seven Codec package, but now I use http://www.kantaris.org/ - based upon VLC.

As soon as I get a chance to I am going to figure out how to use the Multimedia remote I got with my Hauppauge WinTV 1800 PVR tuner card with Kantaris and I'll be set.

Use CCCP it comes with MPC and all the codecs in one.

   Note
Oh and go to View/ options / playback / output /
1. under output select output/EVR custom press
2. under Realmedia/ DX9
3. under Quicktime /DX9
2. under EVR custom press setting / Resiser /Bilinear 2.0

Even without those settings CCCP with MPC will look better than VLC but with those settings it will look even better (BTW you only need to set that up one time)

If you have not used MPC here are some essential shortcuts

CTRL+O (O as in no) open file
CTRL+L open subs (only needed if they are not in same location as the video file.)

I have the same problem. On Vista (64) all my videos displayed perfectly. Unless the actual clip was smaller than 640x480 all movies were crystal clear. Now all the edges look like a bunch of boxes. I unchecked the scale option and the video was really small and remained that way even in full screen. So there is no sense in telling ppl to move back 10 ft from the screen. I hope that the issue is fixed soon. Yes I downloaded latest drivers for graphics card. No Windows 7 does not detect a problem with my settings or drivers.
