Solved Why is GoPro video playback so choppy?

I noticed just recently, like in the past week or so, that video playback from my GoPro camera, using VLC to play the MP4 files, has become extremely choppy. I've been using the GoPro since Christmas, but this just started happening in the past week.

The GoPro records 1080p/60 video. Then I import the MP4 files to my computer and play them back using VLC. The machine has a Core-i5 3470 3.2 GHz processor, 16 GB RAM, GTX 650 Ti Boost 2 GB graphics running the latest nVIDIA drivers. VLC is up to date. Everything that I know of is up to date. But the video that's supposed to be 60 FPS is playing back so choppy it's ridiculous. It plays a few frames then skips a bunch of frames, then plays a few and skips some, and on and on.

When I upload the video to YouTube it looks just fine. Plays back just fine on this machine, on my phone, on my TV, anything.

Any ideas?

Okay well that was easy. I changed this setting in VLC under Video Codecs > FFmpeg as described in this video, and it got rid of all the choppiness. Not sure if that setting got changed somehow at some point, but it seems to be good now.
