Why Images have to be rectangle or squire?

This question always comes to my mind that why all images have to be rectangle.
Why they cant be round or triangle or something else.
Even if we make a circle with a transparent background
the transparent aria will either be square or rectangle
and image takes that whole rectangle space even if main image is a round.

its probably to do with spacing when coding a page.

Because pixels are squares and not rounded or triangle.

Any dead space around the active pixels in an image that is not square, depend totally on the software used to display them, Software such as that used to display these forums are limited to a regular image envelope but others are not.

Generally the web is designed to display images in boxes and this is followed by most online software. It is possible to show an impression of a freeform image boundary, you create the image in horizontal strips, One line high, with varying width to suit the image. the major issue with this type of display for a web image is the fact that you never know how the page it is in will be rendered, Font size and style may be different on two systems as can the actual window itself. because of this it is not deemed worth the effort involved to instigate these options for web output.


In print output the format is much more under the control of the page designer, so this non square image option is available, check out image options in a word processor like word, this provides numerous options for the ways text wraps around an image
