Why is copying data between my 2 computers VERY slow?

The poster did indicate the problem with my post. In my example section, I said 10 megabits...but then followed up with 100 megabytes and 1000 megabytes. He wrote [sic] next to the sections which were incorrect. I have since corrected my post so that it is accurate. We all make mistakes from time to time and I'd rather be told about mine so that I can fix them then just let them slide....so thanks to surfasb

I too would be interested to see if this problem gets corrected or what types of files they were. It's always disappointing to see somebody running at a slower speed than they should. At least the OP knows it's not right, I feel bad about those who just assume all is fine.

I didn't mean any insult.

I laughed when I saw it because literally everyone I know in IT gets their Megabits/Bytes(Mb/MB) messed up. While we all know the difference between a bit and a byte in our heads, we confuse the notation all the time in speech and writing. Looking at the above responses though, I guess some of us still are confused with the notation or even what a bit/byte is.

Back to the OP's problem.

I don't think he's tried RedBirdDad's suggestion of going auto negotiation.

Actually he may have. It wasn't long after he changed it supposedly rebooted that the transfer speed jumped.

Keeping my fingers crossed!

I think maybe the new driver had something to do with that. ;)

Yeah, I think his speeds jumped to 3MB/s. It still anywhere it should be though, which was my concern.

Well i did found out that win 7 likes to save power here & there.

So.

Go to the adapter's properties and on the Power management tab. From there un check the "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power"

This fixed my crappy 1.5Mb/s tranfer rate between my to Win& pc's.

Hope this helps, and sorry if this has been posted again............

All good so far. Transfer rates seem to be more like 1.3MB/sec copying lots of medium sized files but goes upt to 10 or 11MB/sec copying a single large file.

Conclusion
For the record I think it was BOTH the new drivers AND putting tranfer speeds back to "auto".
(Remember that they both started at auto, but the transfer rates were shocking.)

Thanks everyone :^)

Excellent...that's pretty much exactly how it will be. You certainly do lose speed with tons of small files that aren't contiguous on the hard drive with seek times of mechanical hard drives.

This problem wasn't about to be fixed without the driver update. The requested reboot after the driver install made it work, just look at the posts after the driver install. I'm glad those drivers worked for you shipen. ;)

When an Op says they have the latest drivers I always check for new drivers anyway because updated drivers have been coming out weekly to fix just these sort of problems. So naturally while you guys were having a conversation about megabytes and megabits I was out looking for updated drivers.
