Why is the TI Integrated FlashMedia Controller counted as 2 "drives"

On my Sony Vaio laptop, there is a built in memory stick PRO duo card reader. In windows XP, it showed up in "my computer" as a single removable drive.

I've since upgraded to windows 7 and all the drivers were automatcially found/installed except for the memory stick reader. I went to the sony website, and downloaded the windows Vista driver because this computer is from 2006 so they dont' offer a windows 7 driver (it actually the same exact driver they offer for XP MCE. It seems to be working fine, but for some reason the SINGLE memory stick PRO duo reader is counted as 2 drives in "computer" One is labled Memory stick, the other SD/MMC, I'm wondering why this is and what that 2nd SD/MMC is for? When inserting a memory stick, its only registers on the 1st "memory stick drive" Now it is just taking up space.

In the device manager It is listed under 3 different categories (see pic). If I just right click on Portable devices > :I and uninstall will it remove it from the "computer"/explorer list of drives? And would I want to do that? Its annoying me.

It is listed as two drives in Windows 7 since a Sony memory stick and a SD (Secure Digital) card are two different media.

yes but same hardware in windows xp was just listed as one. Plus, the driver is for the reader, not the media, so regardless of what I stick in it, its only one drive. That would be like saying that an opticle drive was listed as ":A" when inserting a CD and drive ":B" when inserting a DVD... it doesnt make sense

The driver is for the reader but since the reader uses different connections for the media, it is, ineffect, two devices.
I can't comment on how Windows XP treated it in your system since it used a different driver.
