Solved Why is Windows Servcies say Stopped when it is Checked

BACKGROUND INFORMATION (not the question)

I've been trying to figure out why my computer is hanging when I start it. Basically I would user msconfig and under the Services tab I would hide all microsoft services and then uncheck the other services one at a time, reboot to see if that fixed the problem. If the service I unchecked was not the problem, I would go back under the Services tab and re-check the service again.

MY QUESTION:

How come after I recheck the service, boot, it still says STOPPED under the status column. Shouldn't it say Running since I rechecked it?

A lot of services are dependent on other services, (check the service properties for dependencies), the best way to troubleshoot can be to use the "manual" startup option rather than disabling them as this allows the system to still start what is needed. If a service or program runs and need assistance from another service which has been disabled that the system can stutter or even crash. With a Manual start set then if a service is needed it will be started with very little delay

One other thing is that unlike Older operating systems such as XP where messing around with services was the norm - Windows 7 and above do not neet services tweaked, and quite often stopping or disabling services will lead to an overall degradation in system performance.

The best way to discover the detail of your issue is to check the boot logs

Hi Steveeyes, You can also type services.msc from the startmenu, and see if any of the services you wish

to restart are listed there. Also some programs can be running in the task manager, and you can right

click to restart the program. Hope this helps a little.
