I have installed JavaRa and the only problem I am having is that I get a crash report when trying to check for updates to Java through the program. Specifically, when I click the "search for updates" button and then choose to use "jucheck".

Please see attached image. Thanks for any help you can give me :geek:

This is the best explanation I have heard yet:
jucheck and jusched

If you search for jucheck it seems a lot of people are confused, and so are their security systems.
I have also read where it can be a resource hog.

I have had success going to the update version site here: Verify Java Version , and letting Java check for itself.

It will go two ways. It will either tell you your okay or it will offer to update you.

YMMV....

thanks for the help, Anak.

I think I am a step closer to the solution. Here is what happened. I reinstalled Java and the update worked fine through JavaRa. Only after choosing to "remove older versions" and running the utility did the jucheck issue begin. :geek:

It's a great little 'tool', but I don't think Windows 7 is supported by JavaRa:
JavaRa Documentation

Windows Versions Supported

Currently, JavaRa supports Windows 9x, 2k, XP, and Vista without UAC.

Your welcome RD,

From what you, and Irene have posted I can offer a theory.

JavaRa was happy until you removed the older versions. It could only work properly with the permissions allowed under those older versions.

Once you reinstalled Java the "tool" and your OS reset themselves, and hopefully you will not see anymore crashes.

I think i should remove old Java files though, for security reasons; right? :geek:

Among other reasons, yes.

This from last month, The Register a UK publication:
Oracle this week pushed an updated version of its Java runtime environment that fixes 21 security vulnerabilities, 19 of which allow attackers to remotely install malicious software on end-user machines.
Oracle gives 21 (new) reasons to uninstall Java • The Register
I had thought at one time that I needed Java because I run Open Office (OOo), but not anymore.

If you or anyone wants to investigate Java I would suggest a search of your choice on any of the abundant antimalware forum sites to see what they have to say, just type Java into their search box.
Here is a quick search from Norton:

Only in specific cases does one keep taking medicine when the symptoms disappear:
