Normally Mouse and Keyboard Drivers should get installed automatically on a PC while installing Windows 7. This is the first instant that I have come across when this is not happening.

And if this is not happening then you may be using some exotic Mouse and Keyboard Hardware that is not recognised by the Windows Installation Disk. Therefore it stands to reason that these Hardwares came with their own installation disk.

As you have not filled the System Specs, it is not possible to find out the manufacturer of these devices.

The basic functions of your mouse and keyboard should work without having to install any additional drivers. Assuming they are PS2 or USB that is, and not wireless. I can't speak for other brands but my wireless Logitech keyboards and mouse work in windows 7, even during the install process. If your mouse and keyboard have some custom keys you may have to install the manufacturers software/driver to get them to work. The drivers delivered though windows update are just your basic drivers, and are supplied by the original manufacturer. It could be that the manufacturer of your keyboard and or mouse never submitted drivers to Microsoft and are just relying on the Windows basic driver to get you going.

So the mouse doesn't work at all? Is it a wired or wireless mouse? My Logitech Wireless Trackball works just fine without installing any drivers. My guess is something must have glitched during the Windows install! Do other mice and keyboards work OK on that PC?

I have several PCs, each with a different model Logitech wireless mouse -- and in each case, the PC recognized the mouse without any special drivers installed in advance. Then, when the next Windows Update ran, it found Logitech drivers and installed those.
