Why upgrade from XP (Pro)?

I run Win7 on my ex-Vista laptop, and would bite off someones hand if it I had to revert. But on my desktop, I dual boot XP and Win7, and am just as happy using XP as Win7. There are a few things I like prefer in Win7, but the same is true for XP.

M$ is already charging me to replace the piece of @@@@ that was Vista with Win7, why would I want to pay to upgrade XP? And the Pro upgrade price is OUTRAGEOUS, especially as I am based I the UK.

Ive been thinking about this recently.
I've gone a bit W7 mad over the past few months and have used most builds and while im happy with them i was happy with XP as well.
I know XP runs all my apps and hardware 100% where as i still have a few niggles with W7.
While i expect ill stick with W7 i have been wondering why im bothering at the moment.

You don't have to. You can keep XP on the desktop and use it, it is still a good OS and it will be supported until 2012(or 2014 I think).

+1... besides, don't you have until 2010 to replace the RC copy of W7? by then, you will know if you want to upgrade or not... have no worries now. SP1 will be available by then and then is when I'll be switching.

If you don't see any advantage there's no need to change, in fact why bother? But I just revisited XP to make sure everything's in order for an "upgrade" and it was painfull. That was with a new clean vanilla install. It was slower and I missed the new toolbar and general look & feel. It was the reverse when I tried Vista.

I have no idea what system you're running, but it may be related. I think whether it's 32 or 64 bit and the heftier your hardware the more Win 7 will make a diff, but I may be wrong. And of course if you prefer the XP look & feel that's a big component.

Right now I couldn't bear going back to XP ...
