As a previous XP user, i've been using 7 beta and really like it, so much that im going to stick with it.

But im curious, XP was a great OS, 7 seems to be the next best thing, but why will people upgrade to windows 8 (thought it was about 7 eh? lol)

If 7 is good, why, in 3 years would you upgrade again, spend more money on something that wont have that much better technology behind it, that will do the same exact things as 7 about.

Sure new features will pop up, but they can only go so far with new features, overlapping on what already _good_ 3rd party software does. A good example of this is WMP, yeah its good, but adding new features to it jsut makes it bulkier, besides i use that VLC anyways?

Anyone understand where im commign from on this subject? Am i missing something?

Stupid question hu : / newer plain and simply means better? lol

In 3 years time there will be lots of new hardware and technology, which previous versions of Windows know nothing about.
There are lots of people that like to have the latest thing going and computer makers like to be able to offer something new.
Would you like to buy a new car with an 1980 engine, suspension, brake system, no air bags and the same dashboard because it worked and you are used to it?

But what im sayin is that, XP lasted so long, so XP is like that old car, but the people bought 3rd party air bags, suspension, ABS ect.

Its just as practical.

About new technology, again with XP, its lasted so long, its still going, unless some ground breaking stuff comes out, there wont be so much of an upgrade in X to upgrade.

I also like to have the newest and best, but i restrain myself because I _know_ i really dont need it. like a new vid card for example, i want a 4870 so bad, but my 8600 works great for anything i do.

Not to mention the difference in performance upgrading a vid card is NO WHERE NEAR what _anyone_ would see in upgrading a OS to a 3 year newer one.

The timeframe is too short to make anything worthwhile imo.

It's a pet peeve for me just to have the latest things, or at least strive to. While being frugal is helpful in some places, personally I don't think technology is where it should be taken.
