Q1. When I look at the folders in C:\Users\User-Name , I can see a [My Documents] folder. I double click on [My Documents] and the location now is C:\Users\User-Name\Documents , why is the folder name different from the exact folder location? (I notice all other folders that have the word "My" has the same situation)

Q2. If I want to move the My Documents to another drive D:, I should create a new folder in D: as [Documents] (without the word "My") or should I create a new folder [My Documents]?

Q3. I intend to follow this article http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/18629-user-folders-change-default-location.html to move My Documents folder, in the article it says
"OPTION TWO 3. Create a New Folder by right clicking or press and hold on a empty space in the main window there, and click/tap on New and Folder. Name the new folder without spaces (ex: "Music" for My Music) for the user folder that you want to move there. (See screenshots below) NOTE: The name that you type in for the new folder will be what you see as the user folder name in the Start Menu (shell:UsersFilesFolder) location when finished with all of these steps. It would be best to use the same name as the user folder to avoid confusion."
and
"OPTION TWO 8. Navigate to the same location as in step 2 and 3 above, then select the renamed new folder (ex: Music), and click/tap on the Select Folder button. (See screenshot below)"

Is the second screenshot at OPTION TWO 3. and screenshot at OPTION TWO 8. wrong? The screenshot shows [My Music] folder, the text says Music?

Hello pcwin,

The user folders that have "My" in the name are not actually named with the "My".

These are symbolic links, so when you name the folder "Documents", it will automatically rename and display as "My Documents", but in reality is still "Documents".

It can be a bit confusing. :)

So I should create a new folder named [Documents] during OPTION TWO 3.?

Are the second screenshot at OPTION TWO 3. and screenshot OPTION TWO 8. wrong?, should these screenshot show [Music]?

Yes, follow the steps exactly.

The screenshot is correct. You will see the folder you name "Documents" automatically change to "My Documents".

OPTION TWO Step 3 text says name the new folder as "Music", I thought OPTION TWO Step 3. and OPTION TWO Step 8 screenshot should show [Music] instead of [My Music]? The Music folder is just a normal new folder that is created in another drive before any move occurs, I do not understand why if you name a folder [Music] and the folder would become [My Music] in Step 3 and Step 8 screenshots? I have tried and that does not happen, could you please explain in detail?

If I understand correctly, the move is only completed at OPTION TWO Step 10 and only OPTION TWO Step 13 screenshot should show [My Music]

Thanks.

When you are finish the tutorial, the folder will be "My Music". Don't worry about the screenshot showing "My Music" already. ;)

So can you please confirm that the conclusion is that the second screenshot in OPTION TWO Step 3. and screenshot OPTION TWO Step 8. are wrong, the screenshots should show [Music] instead [My Music]?

Sorry to keep asking the same questions. I am a newbie and I follow exactly each step slowly and follow each screenshot to avoid doing any wrong stuff which may cause more trouble in future. Your screenshots are very helpful to me and I usually double confirm with the screenshots before clicking anything. I always follow your tutorials without any problems but I am confused by this particular tutorial since the text and screenshot are different. It may be a simple stuff for an expert but to a newbie it is confusing especially if the same step shows different screenshot and text and I do not know which one to follow.

Thanks.

The screenshots are not wrong, but can vary for what you will actually see.

Sometimes it will auto rename from say "Music" to "My Music" if the folder was just missing.

Otherwise it will not auto rename until you finished the tutorial.

As long as you follow the steps exactly, you will be fine. :)

If I have followed the steps correctly, at the new location (the top horizontal address bar) should show [D:\Documents], and the name that is displayed on the folder should show [My Documents] correct?

Now, the new location (the top horizontal address bar) shows [D:\My Documents] and the name that is displayed on the folder should show [My Documents].

I did not need to create a new folder (OPTION TWO step 3) this time because this is not the first time that I am moving the My Document folder, I have moved the My Documents folder to the D: before in previous Windows, I think last time I accidentally named the new folder as [My Documents] instead of [Documents]

I am doing the moving steps again because I have just reinstalled Windows.

The [D:\My Documents] folder was created last time.

How can I redo everything so that the location should be [D:\Documents] and the name that is displayed on the folder should show [My Documents] ?

Thanks.

I do wish to restart OPTION 2, but I have done the steps in OPTION 2 and moved the [C:\Users\Username\Documents] folder to [D:\My Documents]. There is no [C:\Users\Username\Documents] folder now.

How should I reverse the situation like I have never done OPTION 2?

Should the right steps be reversing the move like it has never been moved before, then I rename the folder [D:\My Documents] renamed to [D:\Documents] then I start moving using OPTION 2 to move [C:\Users\Username\Documents] to [D:\Documents]?

(Note: [D:\My Documents] folder already contains documents/folders created automatically by programs already)

Thanks a lot. I have done it successfully! :)

I used Option One at http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/18583-user-folders-restore-default-location.html to restore Documents folder to "C:\Users\Username\Documents" (Option One is easier for me to follow)

I used Option Two at http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/18629-user-folders-change-default-location.html to change to new location. I followed the steps TEXT exactly and ignored the screenshots folder names. (folder names seen on my screen in some steps are a bit different from the screenshots in tutorial)
Notes to myself for reference in future:
Step 3 name the new folder without the word "My". (e.g. [Documents])
Step 3 second screenshot will display [Documents] as folder name
Step 8 screenshot will display [Documents] as folder name
Step 9 screenshot will display [D:\Documents]
Step 10 screenshot will display [New location: D:\Documents]

Now the new location (the top horizontal address bar) shows [D:\Documents], and the name that is displayed on the folder shows [My Documents] and has the default user folder My Documents icon.

Done. :D
