Please tell me someone else has this issue! Cause its confusing the hell out of me, and after changing a million things in the BIOS and other things nothing works!

When i first went to install windows 7, it would remain on the first blue blank screen. (the one before all the installation options come up.) permanently. the mouse would move around so it wasnt a pc jam, and this would happen EACH time i tried to install it from boot.
It was a complete fluke of an idea that i should plug my old 3.5 floppy drive in, just to see what happened. And walla! it hits the first blue screen, then the floppy drive accessed and made that crunching sound they always make, and it moved to the 'do you accept these terms' screen!
I tried turning off the floppy drive as a boot device in the BIOS, i tried pretty much disabling it completely, and each time... sit on blue screen forever with no going forward in the installation process. I have to keep the floppy drive permanently hooked up now since i reboot my pc reasonably regularly.

Is this the deal with all ppl wanting to install windows 7???? what if you dont have a floppy drive, since its dead technology? Or is there something here that ive overlooked??

I have NO Floppy installed in 3 different win7 computers & never had any installation problems. This goes back to one of the first Milestone Beta builds of win7in Dec 2008 :geek: I have the floppy disabled in the bios completely. ;)

Yes an update on your other hardware would be helpful.

I also remembered that Vista did exactly the same thing a couple of years back. So no-one has had this happen to them at all?

I tried all options.
When the drive is unplugged and the BIOS setting for floppy boot is disabled, i get permanent blue screen.
Only when the drive is actually physically connected, reguardless of how its set to boot from, will the windows installer attempt to access the drive, then continue with the installation... its blowing my mind i tell ya!

A bios firmware update might fix it but personally I only update if absolutely necessary.

Yeah this sounds like a BIOS specific oddity.

I've not had a floppy in any of the machines I've installed W7 on and had no problekm of that sort (Others, though be sure you have NO thumbdreives or card readers with cards in them plugged in during install!) :D

The new motherboard I bought doesn't even have a floppy connector. Sound slike you need to go to BIOS, disbal floppy in boot order , AND disable it as boot drive. Don't get those two confused as they are seperate.

You need to disable floppy under drives as well as in boot order. And remove it. It should appear nowhere in BIOS when you are finished.
