wi fi internet?

i have at&t wi fi internet which has worked fine. the problem im having is ever since i got my desktop some times it wants to connect and disconnect. the weird thing is when it disconnects it disconnects my laptop also. but if i turn my desktop off my laptop works fine and stays connected. my desktop connects from a wi fi adaptor what could be the problem? some days it works fine some days it dont

If your desktop is wired to the router, you have to setup the router from the desktop - once more. Else get a WiFi dongle for the desktop and run it from there.

This assumes that the router was first set up via the laptop.

that what i have the desktop wi fi connected to is a wi fi dongle or wifi adapter as i call it. it will have a great connection and disconnects then have to troubleshoot reset the wi fi then it will disconnect few minutes later and when my desktop goes out my laptop loses connection unless i turn the desktop off then the laptop connection works fine

That looks like an IP address conflict. I have that on occasion also. In that case I power everything down and after 30 seconds everything works again.
