i just bought new laptop and now Wi-Fi keeps dropping every few minutes and the download speed is low
with old laptop i'm getting 13Mbps down and 9Mbps up speed while with new laptop getting barely 2Mbps down (note that upload speed i can get 9Mbps also)

so 1) there's no download speed
2) occasionally Wi-Fi drops and reconnects (sometimes needs to troubleshoot to fix) 3) when running troubleshoot to fix Wi-Fi, it is giving that there was problem with wireless adapter or access point (which it fixes till next drop).

i've tried to search Your forum and others but dont seem to find person who has all the problems at the same time as mine

also the speed under connection status does not go under 54 Mbps

Do not be fooled with your connection status information, this is the sync speed with your access point (practically means if your router was the internet those Mbps would be your speed.

Secondly, your download speeds, how are you measuring these? Remember MBps does not equal Mbps.

Thirdly, do you have all the latest drivers for your wireless network card (if you go to Control Panel > Device Manager > Network Adapters, you will find an item which will typically say Wireless on it - open this up and choose properties and check the driver version, google for the latest version or ask here)?

How far away is your router and do you have any electronic interference near your router or between you and it: this can be something simple like an older television, a radio, flourescent light fittings, telephone cables/faxes?

why i pointed connection status out, my other laptop kept chaning it, 1:1 with signal strength, just thought maybe its important

speed test im measuring in Mbps (small b :) ) on both laptops
for some reason speed keeps getting better, last sunday it was barely 1Mbps, now reaching to 5Mbps

my wireless adapter is atheros ar9485wb-eg with version 9.2.0.496, automatic update for driver gave that i already have latest one, search gave me version 9.2.0.500 for win7 64bit but it does not have download option yet

router is 2 rooms away, but how does laptop thats year and half old give 2, 3 times better result when testing side by side in same room (new laptop speed when connected to wifi alone, old laptop speed when both are using it (still same result when running test on new laptop while both were opened))

and update on the drop out (as speed wasnt only thing) it sometimes runs for hours without any problem, and then drops like 10-20 minutes with 2-3 minute interval half the times when reconnecting have to run troublehoot which says there was a probem with adapter or access point

update 2 on situation
i made signal booster with aluminium foil, seems to be better now (gonna see on the long run)
also gonna try to contact my ISP for access to router settings for probably channel change

anything else you can maybe suggest to keep an eye out?
