widgets outlook dot com( hotmail) and gmail acounts

well for years iv used hotmail and gmail and since live went the way of the dodo ( yes i konw there are patch's out there) im wondering if there are any desktop widgets or firefox addons that will give me alarts when i get email thro both gmail and hotmail note i dont want to use the live mail client.

currently i get alerts in FF about gmail

Hi there ... I don't use Firefox but believe there is an add-on called Hotmail Watcher that works with outlook and hotmail..Version 1.61 .. No idea how well it works though

Not sure why Microsoft has relied so much on Skype for such a basic function for a messenger ?
The only way I've been able to work around this is to add Hotmail to my phone for a alert.
