Ran into an issue with one of my computers. Have no problem accessing a page on a government site that I access daily with one computer but on another computer hooked to the same router, I get an http error 404 "file or directory not found". Compared all my internet settings to the computer that works and everything is the same. Generally this is a link error from within the website but this is not the problem here as the one computer has no problem accessing the page. Have checked everything I can think of. Need suggestions.

Different ports on a router can be configured differently. Try the one that does not get to the site on the same router port that does. You may have to reset.

Thanks Gary. I have already reversed the router ports for the two computers but it did not alter the issue. Also took it to a friends house and had the same issue. Got to be something in the computer causing this.

Hello Ron, can we assume that you used to be able to access that site on that PC, but just recently the issue started? I know it seems cliché, but have you tried clearing cache, and the cookie(s) for that particular site? If it is not a secure site (HTTPS) you might try a web based proxy and see if you can access then.

Thanks A Guy. Cleaning is automatically done when the browser is closed. Your statement about working and now not working set me to thinking "what has changed on the computer". The one thing I should have checked and did not was Internet Explorer version. I now have 10 instead of 9. Uninstalled the IE10 update and everything works fine. Really irritating as I have all my computers set to not do automatic updates. I manually check for updates and install what I feel is need as I have had too many crashes due to Windows updates and in the last month I have had to fix a dozen of my customers computers with issues related to bad updates. The computer completed a massive amount of updates during the night on April 2nd (my computers stay on 24/7). Has taken a while but I finally discovered why the auto updates was reset. I had a corruption problem on the 1st with my Office 2010 suite which dictated a reinstall at which time the installation reset the computer to auto updates. I did not realize this and there was where the problem began! Live and learn! Thanks everyone for your assistance.

Another instance of IE10 causing a problem. I rarely use IE, but wanted to install the latest and greatest. Still haven't as I am seeing far too many issues with IE10. Glad you figured it out. A Guy
