I enjoy taking my laptop to breakfast on Sundays. There is a limited number of restaurants in my area that have Wifi. I don't have a Smartphone, but I believe it is capable of a Wifi Hotspot. I am looking for something cheaper than a Smartphone ($80 a month) that could provide a Wifi Hotspot. Any of you guys have any ideas?

You can get a usb wireless modem probably cheaper than a cell contract but a contract or month to month terms deal from a cell service is still needed, then there is the cost of the usb modem.
Just because most data capable devices are capable of making wifi hot spots doesn't mean it's automatically add to the cell phones contract/ This type of features is about 20. u.s. more to enable it.
I just noticed your in Houston,
I found Cricket to have some reasonable usb modems and month to month usage for the devices.
