Ok so I want to hook my Toshiba laptop to the TV so I can do whatever with it in the living room.
Now there are two ways I can see one is a HDMI cable - bit messy and I really don't like having cables draped across the floor etc
The other I saw a You Tube clip on a plug in box for the TV so that I can use the laptop to the TV. However this fellow said it was "a box" - well not being Einstein or a clairvoyant I have no idea what these devices are called and hunting through my local suppliers listings I cannot find what this device is so can someone please tell me what exactly is it called??
The only concern is security of course so will my laptop signal be picked up by others close by if so I am not real sure about using this method.

More the computer on the TV but both would be nice mate. I looked at those ones that Mellon Head mentioned and it seems like they stream TV programs.
See I am not real sure if what this fellow is saying is what I want ideally it would be nice to Google and also record onto my hard drive a program whch I can then save to an external device or DVD.

You'll more than likely need something like a capture card to do any recording. This is not my area of expertise by any means, so I could be wrong about it.
Ok I have it wired up now via the cable to my 42" LCD TV and while it is not exactly what I am after the picture is perfect and the sound just real clear. So I might have to scout around for one oft the wireless devices as this is too good to miss out on.
Thanks for aall the replies felleas I really appreciate it

Good to know you're on the track now John. It may be possible to setup your TV and a 2nd monitor through the laptop within Windows. I don't use multiple monitors so I'm no help though.
How did you hook things up and what are you watching?

I just hooked up with a longish HDMI cable and the picture quality on the TV was just incredibly better than the laptop monitor I suppose for obvious reasons. I did download the HD 4650 Radeon driver but the CCC just will not work with or without the TV hooked up I suppose it is only a laptop and I am running 8 on it so the colours through the laptop itself are not fantastic. The res is only that 1600x900 just the quality of the TV I reckon. Mind you it is not an expensive one (Sanyo) but always has been a good picture. I was just emailing and Googling that sort of stuff.
At the moment I am using the Ivy and with a BenQ GL2440 and it is pretty good though I am tossing up whether to go 27".
