wifi weirdness

Sounds like your Belkin router isn't working right. I don't see the exact model number anywhere but a reset or a firmware update might make it work better. Could be a security problem but WAP2 should work for you as long as you set up a connection password.

You should be able to access the Belkin control panel by typing in 192.168.2.1 into browser URL.

Thanks Chev! - when I get back home will I be able to see my router model number on the outside and then go to belkin website for a firmware update? Or will I need to try typing 192.168.2.1 when I am ethernet connected to the router?

That number typed directly into the URL of your browser will get you too your Belkin control panel page. Yes you need to be connected to the router for that. You should be able to set up security and obtain or create a wireless connection password, Windows 7 likes to use those passwords to connect for security reasons.

I could look up any possible firmware update if I had your router model number and version number. You may not even need the update but it's worth checking.

I don't have your router here or the set up page for your router in front of me so unfortunately it's impossible to give you exact step by step instructions. I don't even know what model Belkin you have so I'm not sure about it's capiblities or security options. You can easily look up Belkin's basic set up procedure for your router. If I had your exact model number I could find more information about it.

I would go with the WAP2 security and set up a password to access your wireless connection. Also make sure that SSID is in broadcast mode. After that you should see the wireless signal from your machine and the password should allow you to access it. It may help to reset your router then set it up from the start.

Firmware oh yes, after making sure the driver was correct, the firmware one of my first thoughts...Quote> I could look up any possible firmware update if I had your router model number and version number. You may not even need the update but it's worth checking.

But mtmark is so smart he figured out how to find the firmware and update it himself. Nice work on that mark, I knew with a bit of instuction you would figure this out on your own. Thanks for reporting back in Mark. I will mark this as solved. :D

So you did a firmware update for the router. that might erase it's memory of ever knowing if a printer was connected to it. Can you ping it, but then again it might not be on the network to be pinged...

I think I need to reinstall printer to the network.

I D/L the drivers from Brother (but they say VISTA/XP) and unzipped them.

Now I am running 'install new printer' from Win7 Control Panel - no luck here ;(

Any help appreciated - especially step by step for someone like me!

Thanks

EDIT - no other pc or macbook can see/use the printer now either ;(
