Will a Ph II 965 (3.4) bottleneck a GTX660TI SC?

Building my new Intel system very soon, but got the Gpu early because of a special deal I couldn't pass up. So far it runs pretty incredible compared to my old 560Ti. But how much is it being held back..

I guess I'm curious and I'd like to hear ppl's opinion's about what kind of performance I may not be seeing because of the weak platform.

You may see some extra performance just by going with a new CPU with stronger/more efficient cores. Most "bottleneck" questions are difficult to answer without testing though. If you had a single core processor and 1GB of RAM with that same video card, then the answer is easy.....yes there is a severe bottleneck. A quad-core CPU from that generation will probably work well with lower-mid range cards, but you are going to gain FPS in games with a newer CPU just because games aren't 100% based on the GPU and a more powerful CPU will net higher frame rates.

What Intel CPU are you going with?

Not sure yet, probably a mid-range i7 with a mid range board/memory. i5 4670 to i7 4770 range, like $200-300 budget so certainly nothing better than that.

Was having problems, strange ones. Unigine and Crysis 2 would cause a nasty freezup and reboot, screen would go black and have purple bits on it, and would restart the pc even if I had restart pc on failure unchecked.

EVGA just gave me a GTX 760 to replace the GTX 660Ti (and saved $20 lol...) and so far everything is better, but I can tell the Cpu is still holding it back quite a bit.

EVGA has pretty damn good support, sent me a new card no questions, I just return this 660Ti, saved money too, and surprisingly it's quite a bit faster, 256bit memory bus in the 760 vs 192 in the 660Ti, and although fewer cuda cores it scores much higher in Unigine and 3DMark 11, also boost clocks are quite a bit higher. I highly recommend this card, even best buy has them for $299.99.

That's a monster card, the GTX 760. It's about $25-50 cheaper than the 660Ti and performs about 15-30% better. Good deal!

Get the best chipset you can on the motherboard and of course the best CPU the budget allows.

Z77 chipset probably recommended now for gaming if I recall Intel side.
