will backup desktop icons still link to programs??

hello, doing a complete reinstall of win 7. so on my backup I have a desktop folder that shows all the icons on the desktop. may be a silly question but will those icons still work when I restore them to the desktop on the reinstalled windows if the same programs etc are there?

The shortcut files save a full path to some program/file/whatever (along with a few extra options), but not the data itself. Copying them to a new system will make them search the same folder in the new computer, so you must make sure it exist in the new install.

If you have the very same program, in the very same location, then the shortcuts will work as before just fine.
Personally, I won't bother backing them up because it's totally trivial to recreate them from scratch, unless you have tons of them.
