will BF3 be playable on these Specs ?

Hi..

I'm having some concerns about Battlefield 3 that need a look at ...
I'm about to upgrade to SAPPHIRE HD 6870
the thing is the rest of my specs are not much
I have a Core 2 Duo 2.6GHZ [E7300] & 2GB of RAM
what the FPS will be like with the new V-card .. will it be playable or do i still have to upgrade the rest ?

I do know that i will be able to run it my point however is how good will it be ?
do i need to upgrade my cpu to sense the difference of upgrading my gpu ?

as far as i know the sapphire hd 6870 is able to run it on ULTRA settings on 1920x1080 with very descent fps
but if limited with a cpu like e7300 will things go low
if so then instead of buying the 6870 maybe i could go to something less like 6790 since i won't be able to get full advantage of it anyway

I see ... but you missed my point :huh:
I am pretty sure the 6850 can handle things very well .. again my only concern is about my CPU .. how much will it bottleneck the GPU .. shall it down the game fps to like 27 or such ?

Your CPU is listed as the minimum spec, therefore you can probably expect the minimum performance. I wouldn't invest a ton in a new GFX card unless you plan to also upgrade your CPU.

oh now i see well it will bottleneck the performance of the GPU and i would suggest you if you can find a used Quad Core CPU somewhere grab it.. not sure if it will dip the frames under 30 FPS but Quad Core's helps a lot in newer games especially which are CPU intensive games.

what pparks1 and boogieboy post is true. First of all, what res. you're gonna play BF3? The big issue of your specs is BOTTLENECK to CPU & RAM, and this will cause what so called "stuttering".

Sure, there's always a chance i guess. With 1366x768 HD 6870 will do more than enough, but another issue seems to come with your RAM.

Besides upgrading to hd 6870 will not be optimized / "not worth it" if i may say, when 1366x768 is the max. res.

I play BF3 with 1680x1050 max out and it's playable ( >30 fps ). My card Hd5850 ( proc i5 2500 k and 8 GB ram dual channel ) which's slower around 10% than hd 6870.

hahaha ..as mentioned above that your vga will do more. lagging and stuttering are those two different thing i think. Lagging is more having to do with fps while stuttering is with rendering which means like pouring water from hoses where much void stays inside the hoses. ( water not flowing smootly ). Hoping this analogy makes you clear coz i don't know how to describe it in a good way. lol
