Will dual booting my Win7Ult32 wid WinXP32 solve my problem?

If you are too lazy to click the above link, this is the problem I am having (this is the 'long story short' version of my problem actually)

Windows 7 Ultimate is slow (not 'too slow', not 'very slow', just slow) when I have more than 3 windows open. By slow I mean that the Win7 animations are not smooth.

Fullscreen 3D games wont launch or have very choppy gameplay. Small BigfishGames full screen games work though (so far).

I thought I'd either upgrade my Win7Ult32bit to Win7Ult64bit or dual boot with WinXP/SP2/32bit or do both (upgrade and dualboot) OR just do a clean install of WinXP/SP2/32bit.

So I want to know, will the above mentioned solutions work? Or do I just have to try and see what happens??

Ok read the other thread and can tell you several things. DOnt bother with 64 bit if you are staying with 4 gigs ram.

Deamon Tools uses a file sptd.sys which causes all sorts of problems. Bsod's, freezes, etc. It should be removed.

what resolution are the games being run?

Sorry to tell you that even the 64bit Vista will run fine with 4gb of memory installed! The 64bit simply can use more then when needed not required 4gb. With a quick look at the system specs the power supply may be a little on the low side for the card just added in plus the need for a likely clean install due to the hardware swap.

Any good card will tend to pull on power during gaming as well as any leftover drivers, registry entries still trying to load the old card's drivers clashing with the new if anything is still leftover. Incorrect drivers or bad install equal occasional blue screens, game crashes, and with the latest ATI Catalysts the problem with the OpenGL problem where older game titles simply will fail to start.

I used to have 2GB ram. I bought another 2GB along with the gfx card. If I ask my mum to buy another RAM card, she'll kill me.

What's Bsod's? Can I use ALCOHOL (At least I think that's what it's called) because I need a software which can recognize .iso or .cue files and create a virtual drive.

The games are bring run at my monitor's resolution (1024x768)

1. I didn't understand the first part of the first paragraph.
2. 450W is not enough?!
3. Why is a clean install necessary?
4. I never had an old card. Both my card and Win7 are new.
5. No bad or incorrect drivers. I got the latest Catalyst from the official website.
6. Also, Assassin's Creed is not an old game

Any more ideas? I am dying here!!! Well, not exactly dying , but still.

That was in response to zigzag3143's statement of not going with the 64bit 7 since you didn't have more then 4gb installed. I ran the 7 betas, RCs, and retail 64bit up until building the new case I have now during the late spring quite well with 4gb of memory. The MS minimum rec is 2.5gb for the 64bit since it loads more data into the active ram seeing less data swapout to the paging file on the drive.

As far as the supply the screen resolution is low while some cards tend to work better with a little more amps on the rails found with the larger models. Your supply could be being pulled down somewhat during gaming or when having any good load while a 450w easily covers the remaining hardwares since you are not running multiple drive, high resolutions, dual monitors, ocing, etc..

The idea of a clean install would come in the event you found the first was a bad install. That can happen at times no matter how good all the hardwares. If the only problems are being seen during gaming however the likely problem is the need for DX 9c which can still be installed for the pre DX10, 11.

Another cause seen lately with various older and even more recent game titles people have mentioned on the ATI Catalyst updates sticky there. Game titles 5yrs. or older run into the lack OpenGL support with the 10.5 and later catalyst versions.

For the 64bit 7 since you have the 32bit presently that would also require a clean install for the change. You can't perform an upgrade install from the 32bit to 64bit Windows.

As far as Assasin's Creed it's not exactly the newer title either. Besides problems with video drivers you could be seeing sound driver problems which can also cause numerous problems for gaming and multimedia playback. In plain terms sometimes the onboard sound isn't enough depending make and model board as well as who made the audio chip where a separate expansion works out the best on a gaming machine.

Actually over the last year and a half 7 itself was found to have far fewer game crashes with some older titles that love to crash to begin with when looking back at previous versions.
