will i loose all data

hi friends. now on windows xp and it is installed on c drive and my file system is ntfs. i have other partitions like drive d,e,f etc. i want to know that if i install win 7 ultimate on drive c by using a win 7 bootable disk, will the setup format my other drives also or
it will only format the drive on which i install the operating system.

Clean updates on Windows 7 will move all old programs, data and settings into C:\Windows.old folder, so there is no formatting involved. But, with any major upgrade, you should ALWAYS backup your system first to DVD or external drive and disconnect it before upgrading.

Follow the tutorial http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1649-clean-install-windows-7-a.html . In step 8, select drive "C", and format it ... and dont touch any of the other partitions .

After the installation completes, you will get the full data of the other partitions .

In a word, no.

If you are carrying out a clean install with a Windows DVD and if you select the C drive during the installation process, your other partitions and data on them will remain untouched.

However, I would still backup to external media, any personal data you don't want to lose - just in case.

Another way...install Winrar, open the .iso and go to the Sources folder, double clik on Setup.exe, this will give you choice of drive partition during the setup process.
