Will I lose activation if I copy a clone over

Hi

My W7 Laptop has died, I have a full Casper clone of the whole system.

If I copy it across to my new Laptop, will I lose activation?

Bear in mind that my Old Laptop is 100% legal with my own install
of W7 then upgraded to W10 with the MS free upgrade.

Thanks for any advice.

Not sure if using your MS account will activate 10 on the different hardware.

Otherwise, you may be able to use your win7/8/8.1 key to activate 10, try it and see. It works on builds of 10 so far.

If the new laptop has a genuine Windows 10 installation then you should have no activation issues.

when I say new, it is new to me, it was a demo that was put on the shelf and forgotten about.

So it was W7, now it is nothing because I tried the cloned thing and lost activation.

I tried to speak logically to MS but was told to contact the manufacture as the Key on the back
was for OEM??? So what!

I'm going to reinstall W7 form an Iso and see if that gets through.

Makes sense, an OEM SLP is a kind that can only be used on 1 system, trying to copy the OS with this activation basically makes the OS counterfeit because you're attempting to move a system locked activation to a different system.

Legally a OEM/SLP COA key is locked to the computer it was originally installed and activated the first time.

It is complicated because you are trying to move a "free upgrade".


You should be able to move your win7 to a different machine first of all. If you then wish to "upgrade" that to 10, the upgrade process still appears to work.
