Will it work?

Hi All,

Its just now come time for me to do a full reformat of my wife's laptop running win XP and having never been wiped since we received it in 2006. The machine is running a T5500 w/ 1GB of RAM and a 100GB HDD. I was thinking about putting Win7-32bit on that machine, but unfortunately, I've only got the Win7 x64 that I've got on my desktop. I've done some checking and found that her machine will support x64, but I'm not sure if it would be asking too much for her machine to actually run it. The question is will a machine with these specs run x64 (or x86 for that matter) and if it won't run x64 is there any way to get a hold of the 32-bit version now that M$ has stopped the offering?

Thanks,
Greg

go with the 32 bit...1gb of ram will struggle hard...check the other forum threads for commentary. i would not even think about running 64 bit.

If the machine is x64 capable and you have all the x64 drivers, then there is no reason it can't run 64 bit. It might be a bit slower than 32bit with the limited ram.

Sorry, there are ways to get 32 bit, but ....

Gary

Edit: You might want to look through this thread about the ram. http://www.sevenforums.com/general-discussion/3884-32-vs-64-only-2-gigs-ram.html

I did have a chance to look at that one... one of the reasons I'm not even sure that the 32-bit will run. That being said, the machine fits the requirements from M$, so it should work... now I just need to find a copy.
