what's the view on this? With so many problems updating to sp1 do members think they'll fix this problem with a revised sp1?

I certainly cant really be bothered to do a clean install on just one pc to get it as I know the machine is absolutely fine with no malicious software etc. So with all these problems currently updating I suspect many will just forget sp1 unless MS fixes it.

What are the problems? I have install it on two computers without any fuss. One was a iMac 27" with Win 7 Ult in boot camp and the other on a HP system.

I know people have had problems (this happens sometime whenever a sp is released), but it would help if they indicated what the problem was and then maybe we could help them figure how to fix the problem.

Also if they would take the time to include their specs in the CP section when becoming a member it would be of great help. By filling in their system specs it allows other members to view their system, thus giving them some idea what to look for, or where to start with attacking the problem.:)

Ive got 3 pcs - 2 of which took the update fine. One didnt though. They have identical software on - it is used only for email and dreamweaver.

There is an isue with this update - there are too many problems for there not to be. Im wiolling to bet that if MS released all the hotfixes individually they would go on fine.

That many people did not have any problems ( me for one) after updating to SP1 does not take the itch away. What matters is many do have problems and then it is a wild goose chase.:)

Microsoft itself has acknowledged that certain software/drivers may hinder installation and/or those may not work and/or this has been reported on many forums. (Since I have no problems I have not gone deeply into it.)

Now does one has to list all the software one has installed in the machine apart from the hardware? I wonder!

With all respect if you have three computers with nearly identical software and it installs on two, wouldn't that indicate that the update is okay and there is something amiss on the third pc?

FWIW it installed fine for me.

My personal previous experience with Windows XP Service Packs has been that most of the folks that had difficulty with them had a pre-existing problem with the computer.

Not saying it's their fault but, with all the nefarious junk floating around out there it'd be difficult for MS to forsee every scenerio.

No I dont think so

as I said why doesnt MS release every single hotfix separately. Im willing to bet that each and every one would install fine for users.

The best thing to do with this service pack is hide it and Im willing to bet also that these users will not have any issues with future updates after doing this.
