I have XP SP 3 and will do a clean install to windows 7 ultimate. I have two internal SATA HD. Before I install windows 7, I plan to migrate files (documents, music) and do a full backup, from one internal HD (Boot drive) to the other HD (my large backup drive) and use both drives as I have done in the past...First drive as boot and the second as backup storage.

Will the installation affect the second drive? Do I need to physically remove the storage drive prior to installation and re-install after? Will windows 7 have issues with the storage drive when I put it back in to transfer my documents/music back using windows easy transfer?

you should not have any issues doing it that way ,you can actually leave the drive in situ with no ill effects hope this helps , good luck with your installation and welcome to win7 :)

Hi, welcome to the forums.

pebbly is correct, the installation of Windows 7 onto your boot HD will have no effect on your second drive. You just need to choose 'Custom Install' once booted from the DVD, this will move your current XP installation to a windows.old folder. You will then be running a 100% clean install of Windows 7.
