Will this setup suffice?

Good day!

I am planning to upgrade my current machine to have a video editing machine. I've been searching for computer shops near my place and I found this website to be the cheapest. http://www.interpace.cdo.ph/personal.pdf Please take a look at Package 7 with the i7 2600k CPU. Will this one suffice or is it overkill?

I have a Canon dslr which is capable of filming 1080p which is why I am planning to upgrade my current rig.

And do note that the rates are in Philippine Pesos.

Thank you in advance!

29,995 Philippines is right at $700 US.

That's an OK price for the components listed. The retail price of those components in the US would be at least $600.

If you are doing video editing, I'd upgrade the RAM to 8 GB.

Those components do not seem to include a video card. Make sure to find out about that.

I don't see a motherboard mentioned either. I do see upgrades to Intel branded boards mentioned at the bottom of the list. I would probably upgrade to one of the Intel motherboards because otherwise you don't appear to even know what motherboard you are getting.

The system appears to have a no-name "Tommade" PSU. I would try to get that replaced with a known high quality brand such as Seasonic, Corsair, or Antec. 650 watts is more than enough--even overkill--for a standard 2600K video editing box.

Video editing eats as much as you can throw at it. So core i7 2700k, high end gpu HD6950 or nvidia 570+.
8-12gb ram.
And ideally an SSD for super fast write speeds.

ignatzatsonic and badger906,

I am planning to upgrade the RAM to be atleast 8GB. My current 4GB serves me well but I think I will be served better with atleast 8GB of RAM. And also, I have been itching to try a SSD so this will be the perfect time to try it.

It says there that the 2nd Generation Core has a built-in high-end VGA. I still have to check what their high-end really is. If it is not enough, I would include a video card on that list.

The package also includes a motherboard though it was not stated there what specific model it is. And also I would inquire about the PSU.

I just recently saw this link http://www.gaisano-interpace.com/price.pdf

If the packaged one does not make you happy, could you possibly suggest me a rig out of their list?

Thanks in advance!

I just went through the Gaisano price list. Here are my comments on it. I did not see certain components like CPU cooler and case fans. Some of the brands named are totally unknown in the USA. Below are my recommendations and prices as shown in the Gaisano list. I have estimated prices for some other items.

CPU: Intel 2600K; 13695; good price

Motherboard: Intel DH67BLB3; 3995; this is a good price; I'd stick with Asus or Intel

RAM: 8 GB Kingston DDR3 1333; 1790; that’s a good price, even in USA.

Hard drive SSD: Intel 80 GB; 7795; is this a 320 series? US price for it would be 6000 to 7000

Hard drive not SSD: Samsung 1 TB; 3995; this is at least 1000 higher than it would have been a month ago, but hard drive prices have jumped up due to flooding in Southeast Asia.

Case: take your pick; those brands are unknown in USA; guessing 1000; a decent case in USA would be 2000 Philippines or more.

PSU: the only ones offered are Intex and Tommade brands; totally unknown in USA; the supposed “high quality” 600 watt unit is 995, which is only $23 US, which tells me it is likely garbage; I would expect to pay 4000 Philippines/90 US for a decent 600 watt unit.

DVD writer: Samsung SATA; 780; good price

Monitor; take your pick; guessing 5000

Case fans; probably two; guessing 1000 for a pair

CPU cooler: about 1500, but you can remove this item and use the stock Intel cooler, which is fine for a non-overclocked system.

Graphics card: take your pick and do research necessary to choose proper card for video editing; A midrange card in USA would be 5000 to 7500 Philippines.

Integrated graphics will not handle real time HD video editing.

Why do you think grahpics cards can cost up to and over £400 if the ones built into a system are capable as something as demanding as video editing.

There is no point having a 12 core hyperthread cpu when your restricting yourself to such a massive bottle neck as integrated graphics.

Woah! I did not expect a quick reply :D I was thinking of reading replies the tomorrow morning (10:30pm here) but I just quickly checked anyway. Thank you for the recommendations! I will surely take that to heart. As for the components that you are unfamiliar with, those are the common ones here. If those are a little bit expensive to you, wait until you know the prices for the ones you know about (if you are lucky enough to find them here )

Anyway, I now have specific parts of what I would but this Christmas. I would most likely be postponing my plan to buy a new camera lens but this purchase will surely be useful.

Thank you again!

+rep!

edit: have I given you a rep lately? It says I have to spread some rep to others before I can give you yours but I am positive I have not given you lately since I have not been active for a few months. Anyway, just incase this does not get resolved, do know that if I could, I would have given you more than 1 rep :D

Good day! Just to give you an update, I still have not upgraded my system yet (Thank God for that!) for we were hit by a typhoon recently and everything was flooded :D.

Anyway, I would once again ask your opinion of the rig I will be getting immediately (since my current rig is still full of mud and all ).

What do you think of:

Processor: i5 2500k
Memory: 8GB RAM
Graphics: 1GB Afox GTX550
Harddisk: 1TB HDD (SSD is out of the budget for now)
MBoard: ECS H61H2-M2

other parts will be supplied but I listed the more important ones. I will be using this rig for mainly HD video edit.

I got the items from here http://www.gaisano-interpace.com/price.pdf since they are the most competitive seller here.

Also, if any of you could recommend an AMD counterpart, it would also be accepted since AMDs are generally cheaper than Intel :p

thanks!

your thoughts please :D

Most people would tell you that the price differential between the 2500 and 2600 is not worth it. They are pretty close in performance and the 2600 is about $80 more in the US. If you get a K model processor, you could easily overclock the 2500K a bit to match the stock 2600 if you wanted to, but even without overclocking there isn't much difference.

I'd try to point you toward something other than ECS for the motherboard. Maybe Intel, Asus, or Gigabyte.

You don't mention a power supply. You don't need a lot of power, but I'd try to get a quality brand. It seems that it's difficult to get a high quality power supply in the Philippines---usually you just see unknown cheap brands for $20 or $30, normally supplied with the case. They are likely junk, but maybe you don't have much choice.

If youre buying K cpu you need motherboard with chipset that supports overclocking otherwise buy I5 2500 or even I5 2400 same thing just a bit lower clock.

this motherboards chip is H61 or so it seems it does not support overclocking so there is no point to buy K cpu.
with i5 2500k cpu i recommend P67 or Z68 chip motherboards.

The 2600 is only worth the extra cost if you use applications that can take advantage of Hyperthreading, and use them often.
One example would be Encoding 1080P videos, although there are other uses for it just not as common.

For the most part, games will not use it.

So for a General Use/Gaming PC .. its likely not worth it.

The main use for this rig is to edit 1080P videos. I've already passed the stage where I was a hardcore gamer. And that was the time when counter strike was the lord :D. It has been many years now. The only game I play right now is a browser game :p

If you were to choose, 2500k or 2600?

I have ZERO knowledge on overclocking so I will take this into consideration. But will a stock 2500k sweep the floor against a stock 2500? Is it a considerable difference?

if you dont do overclock i5 2500k is waste of money its same as i5 2500
only difference expect oveclocking is on chip VGA but if you use pcie vga you dont need that.
you can compare here
