A few months ago I purchased an HP Laptop with Windows 10 on it. I have decided I would like to replace Windows 10 with Windows 7 but am concerned about getting Win7 drivers. HP only offers Win10 drivers for the computer.

What are the chances I can download and install those Win10 drivers under Win 7?

Thank you.

Depends on the device. Sound is one that is not compatible (on all I've seen or seen posted on forums). But if the sound is Realtek, there are drivers available direct from Realtek. Windows 7 will install SOME hardware drivers (ones that drivers are available for).

If you want to give it a shot, first do a complete hard drive (all partitions) backup to a separate drive with a program such as the free Macrium Reflect. Then do the Win 7 install and if its a bust you have the backup to restore the HP drive back to where you were. Another option is to replace the hard drive with a different drive and try the Win 7 install there. Again if it doesn't work out all you have to do is swap back to the original hard drive.

I have a dual boot system Win7/Win10 (on separate SSD's). I've accepted Win 10 and it is now my "operational" system even for my home recording studio. I only keep Win 7 as I have one application (an RS232C USB adapter that will only run on Win 7 or older OS) for my wife's Embroidery machine patterns. If I ever find a compatible adapter, Win 7 will be history.

Hi,
Yea that's a tough one
I would just buy a new ssd or hdd to install 7 on if you want to try
I would also have a mouse ready and make sure you can connect to the internet wired instead of wireless

Win-7 uses ahci and win-10 uses xhci
So that is usually a deal breaker using a usb installer
You might be able to use a dvd installation disk ?

Either way the installation process has gotten quit weird just for 7 machines so I'd also review this too

Dell has a complete set of drivers for that comp, originally a W7 model.
note read any comments about requirements for W10, to reset them back for W7
