Win 10 forced on me ! scared and furious !!

hello
I left my PC for 30 minutes or so and got THE SCARE when I came back

Win 10 was installing - the screen said "25% ready" or some such
I panicked ! I pulled the plug off the wall !!

when I restarted all was blocked, had to go through a new hard restart
and "the thing" has erased all my restore points !!!!

I have had those messages to install Win 10 for months
I DON'T WANT IT
now there is no way I can leave my desk with the PC on

unless you help me !
how can I stop this horrible threat ?

Why did you let windows install Windows 10 updates ??

As long as you don`t let your computer install any Windows 10 updates, you`ll never get windows 10.

It wasn't forced on you, you chose to download the updates, and read and accepted the EULA to install Windows 10.

Try holding yourself accountable for your own actions.

With all the perceived concern for this happening, a short while ago, I decided to see what was actually happening so set up a Windows 7 test system, that was left connected to the internet and running for the duration of the test ...

I received a few "offer" messages over a day or so, which I ignored, (purposely in this case). I did not click on any accept buttons, merely closing the dialogue. I ignored this chance to research and find possible ways to stop the upgrade

After some accidental clicking, as this was on a pro version, I managed to get the system to go to the next phase.

The system gave the prompts and asked if I wanted to upgrade Now or set a time at a Later Date.

For this test I decided to throw caution to the wind and totally ignore this additional opportunity to and check my options and source a Method to prevent upgrade, (GWXControl).

The system then clunked along for a while, downloaded the set-up and began the install - the install then stopped, asking me to agree to the EULA, (End User Licence Agreement), which is a legal requirement imposed on Microsoft.

I declined this and the system immediately accepted the input and rolled back completely to my previous copy of windows 7.

So even if you ignore all the warnings, and get to the final legal check the Windows 10 Upgrade is still able to be cancelled.

Hardly a forced update in my opinion

I'm afraid that Windows 10 wasn't forced on you, but instead just a human mistake on your part by not unchecking this optional update when installing updates.

as I am a non-technical person, I used the software recommended by AddRAM
I feel better !!!

and Brink, I know what happened : I have been seeing these "upgrade to 10 notifications" for so long that I click them away without looking at them
but this afternoon, as I booted up, I looked at the notification : it was a really sneaky new one with a count down.... 60 minutes to hell.... :devil: :devil:
must have been the same this morning, only I did not pay attention and just closed it.... but it kept counting in the back...
wow, did I get a scare !!!!

Windows 10 is not all that bad, if you had another machine to install it on that would be nice

but I kept with win XP longer than most and will do the same with 7
plus - I cannot stand things being FORCED on me
I have a Thinkpad but am loath to install it there

If you like, give Windows 10 a good play with while it's installed to see how you like it.

You have up to 30 days to go back to previous Windows if you don't like it.

I'll go play tourist on the Win 10 forum when I have some time....
and say, one goes play with 10, going back to 7 is done without messing up anything ????

Correct, you'll be able to quickly go back to W7 before the 30 days is up if you like, and if you don't delete the Windows.old folder.
