Solved Win 7 4 BSOD in 7 days

BSOD began since playing LOTRO.

Only recent changes were to install/uninstall games and uninstall net 1.1.

Most recent hardware change (2 mos) new keyboard/mouse combo.

We need some more information. Post it following the Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Posting Instructions and upload your MSINFO32.nfo file.

1. Click on the start button
2. Type "msinfo32" (without quotes) in the search bar of the start menu, click the resulting link. It will open the System Information window.
3. File>Save. In the "File Name" filed, put "MSINFO32" (without Quote), give the save location to desktop, and click the "save" button.
4. Give the time for processing, it will save a .nfo file on your desktop.
5. Zip it, and upload it following the instruction.

The single crash dump you have uploaded is not showing any finite problable cause.

But I would suggest you to take care of Silicon Image SiI 0680 ATA/133 Controller.

The driver is extremely old. Try to update it from Host Controllers, SiI3531, SiI3512, SiI3132, SiI3124, SiI3114 or uninstall it.

Cannot find Windows 7 driver on the linked site, or on google search. Could this be the latest (for a discontinued product)? I only just purchased the controller card with my MB a few years ago. Thanks.

Same here, but still linked the official site to you, if you can find any.

In this situation, the best course of action would be to not use that card.

Went through files yesterday to locate mfr of this pci 133 card (SIIG) but the current driver is indeed the latest. I guess before we can proceed further I must disc the ATAi drive. It has 19gb data on it, equal to my primary drives free space so 1st I must compress system drive to make room. Will run overnight. I will post another set of crash data if when it crashes in the next few days.

Meanwhile, in addition to BSOD experiencing a great frequency of application crashes especially those touching the internet: Chrome LOTRO steam. Maybe have a look at that area?

Dont do it. If you need to back things up, back it up externally.

Online games have their own limitations. You may ask for this issue in LOTRO Community .

OK thanks for the warning, will not compress, just backup to external drive.
I was just going to remove the second drive which depends on having a pci/133 card
meanwhile a new BSOD this morning ...

not sure why the SF Diagnostic did not record but it was there for sure. "IRQL_NOT_LESS" BSOD error.

Anyway the HD2 and adapter are disconnected so lets run a bit and see if that was the only problem.

Before going through that, I ran sfc and received a message that corrupt file found but unable to repair. Can you interpret the attached log and advise? The reason I ask is because once someone helped to identify the exact bad file instead of reinstall. Thanks.

The log says something else.

Excel, Chrome, games .... all are third party applications. SFC /scannow is system file checker. It does not take those stuff into consideration.

The sfc /scannow command (System File Checker) scans the integrity of all protected Windows 7 system files and replaces incorrect corrupted, changed/modified, or damaged versions with the correct versions if possible.

So it has nothing to do with third party applications. Now you may go for a clean reinstall I guess.

Can you recommend a safe/reliable driver diagnostic I can try to isolate/repair any individual ones which are bad? May be avoid reinstall?

Actually there is no driver diagnostic tool that is reliable in true sense. None of them does a real good job.

I am not pushing you to a reinstall; but it is worthy of the time. It will take less time and effort than the possible troubleshooting, particularly in such a clueless situation.

But if you want to try to troubleshoot, I would suggest you to follow http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/220165-troubleshooting-steps-windows-7-a.html ... which eventually ends on a clean reinstall though.

Hi Arc:

I performed a "upgrade" install using my W7 distribution CD today after running chkdsk and stopping all startup and nonbasic services with msdiag. The installer completed successfully and caused a repair of .net 4 before reboot. Perhaps that was my main problem. Prior to this install I updated my graphics driver yesterdsy also.

Is there a good way to learn if this has corrected my problem ?
