When I had XP Pro installed I used Sygate Firewall (even though it was discontinued) it did the job - but I am used to the firewall asking me to allow this or that, until I either allow or not allow permanently - I do not see that happening now with this Win. 7 firewall, I have only been asked about 1 program and I allowed it and it does show in the list as allowed - here is a screen shot of what I have set up - does it look correct or do I need to make changes - I am NOT on any network - home or public

Thanks

Joe

Looks good to me.

Using the program I mentioned above will allow you have a lot more advanced options if needed.

Is that program just to help you control the firewall settings or is it a Stand alone Firewall ??

It helps to make using the built-in Windows Firewall with Advanced Security easier.

If I open win. 7 built in firewall > advanced settings > in overview (open windows firewall properties) > outbound tab on all (domain, private or public) > (2 choices, allow or block) allow is the default setting, if I change it to "block" will I get a nag screen every time the firewall blocks something and give me choice to change to allow or will it just block everything with no choices ?

Never mind - after some more digging I have found the answer to the above is NO

I do believe however that using the suggestion from Brink ( Sphinx Firewall Controller) will enable me the control I am looking for over the win. built in firewall -

Thanks

Nope. It would be blocked without notice.
