When I attempt to shut down my win 7 64 bit, win7 goes through loggiing off then the "shutting down" appears but it never shuts down - after a while it reboots to win 7. I suspect it is a software driver issue but I don't know where to look. Anyone have any thoughts?

Thanks,
Tom

When I try to shut down, the system just stays there for about 10 min and then comes up with BSoD and note that problem with Driver_Power_State_Failure and an 0x0000009F

Thanks I will do that later today. I started up in safe mode and shut down without problem. However, when I restarted in normal mode then attempted to shut down, it would hang again. A couple of other observations: 1) both my printer (Epson R1900) and scanner (Epson Perfection 4490 Photo) are only recognized when I turn them on before starting computer - if I wait after computer is started, i get an error message on scanner and the printer just says its offline. Also, after the restart, the win 7 alert flag told me I did not have antivirus protection even when I checked my programs and confirmed that I had it (Avast free antivirus 64 bit) and it was active and on. I will send dmps later today.

Thanks,
Tom

I could only find one .dmp file dated 3/11 when I installed a game called Hellgate London as a reference. I have attached it. I did uninstall the program today. My computer will still not shut down after removing program and restarting. However, now it seems that the scanner is working as it should regardless of whether I start it before or after I turn on computer; my printer, R1900 Epson, still shows as offline if I try to turn on after starting computer - but if printer is on before I start computer it shows as ready and works.

thanks for any advice and direction.

Searched through Google as I have the same problem which only recently started and my immediate thought was a problem driver update.
I have a Creative X-Fi Titanium SB card and there is an issue on the Creative site with regards to setting Dolby and DTS as "ON" in their Encoder in the Entertainment Console.
If anyone has this card.. perhaps check this out... Will post answer when I attempt it tonight.

Went into Audio Control Panel & selected the "Encoder" & had "Dolby Digital Live" active. Selected the "Off" button and now Windows 7 shuts down fine.

Hopefully your resolution is as simple as mine.

This crash was probably caused by fmodex64.dll which is a component of crysis. I would uninstall it to test and re-install if nec. I also noticed that Hellgate was loaded at the time of the crash.

I would uninstall hellgate and crysis to test and run a system file check to verify and repair your system file
to do that type cmd in search>right click and run as admin>sfc /scannow (note the space between sfc and "/")

If you are overclocking STOP

Let us know the results

Thanks, i will check out later today. However, I did not have Crysis installed on Win 7 drive and i did uninstall Hellgate. I have my computer set up as dual boot. Rather than buying Win 7 upgrade, I bought full retail and additional hard drive. My system now offers me choice; I have Win 7 64 bit on new HD and my Win XP pro 32 bit on other internal HD. I also have a third HD where I store video and photo files; I use Photoshop CS4 (now installed on both OS and drives) as well as Premiere Elements 8. Both OS access the third drive for these files. I did have Crysis installed on my Win XP Pro drive. Are there potential conflicts between OS even though they are on separate drives? When I start up, I'm asked which version to load with Win 7 as the default on timeout.
Thanks,
Tom

Computer set up as a dual boot system. I have Win XP Pro 32 Bit installed on the WD 150 Gb 10K Raptor and Win 7 Pro 64 Bit installed on the WD 300 Gb 10K Raptor.
I ran the scannow and it reported the following: "Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations". However, it still does not shut down properly; when I start in safe mode, it will shut down properly. I wnet through the selective start up once earlier and did not discover anything - I will try it again to confirm. I still have the problems with my printer and scanner - if I do not have them on when I start up computer they are not recognized by Win 7. I also keep gettting important message flag that I do not have anti-virus protection - but when I check programs, it verifies that i have free version of 64 bit capable of Avast and that it's working properly.

Again, any help, directions, comments are greatly apprecaited in attempt to resolve my Win 7 new install.
Thanks,
Tom

Computer set up as a dual boot system. I have Win XP Pro 32 Bit installed on the WD 150 Gb 10K Raptor and Win 7 Pro 64 Bit installed on the WD 300 Gb 10K Raptor.
As a follow up, I went to reliability chart in win 7 and saw that I took a dramatic drop right after I installed Roxio 2010 pro even though the system said it installed successfully. I uninstalled the program and my system has stopped hanging when I shut down; I will have to investigate why Roxio 2010 Pro was/is causing the hanging shut down - the uninstall of Roxio has also seemed to resolved my problems with turning on my printer and scanner after turning on computer - there may be some issue with Roxio and USB port stuff.

I still have the problem with Win 7 telling me I do not anti-virus protection when I have Avast free 64 bit installed and it indicates its functioning properly. I'll follow up later if I can resolve.

Thanks,
Tom

tom for some reason both the crysis, and hellgate files are being loaded into memory(see the dmp analysis) I didnt even know what those files were till I looked them up when they popped. I still could not do a complete analysis because I dont have the correct symbols for your core OS files

Thanks, Ken. I don't know about the symbols for the core OS files. I did have both Crysis and Hellgate games installed on the separate HD that contained my Win XP Pro 32 bit OS. After installing Win 7 Pro 64 bit on a new HD I installed in computer, I did not reload any of my files or folders from the file transfer utility- but I have accessed a 3rd HD I have in computer where I have picture files from the Win 7 OS. Is it possible for the Win XP on a separate HD is affecting some of the Win 7 operations on the separate Win 7 HD?
I really appreciate any help, comments or guidance.
Thanks
Tom.
