Hi all, A few months ago I've been having problems with my graphic card (MSI R5850 Twin Frozr II 1GB) and PC as it was having BSOD's 24/7. And its really getting out of hand. but I think I found the problem after months of searching...

When I was using driver sweeper for my graphic drivers, I think it deleted a directory or two too far. I think my problem is very very similar to this guy's... As you can see he sorted it out by cleanly installing on a old HDD, and then moving the directories he listed and its files over. Can someone please confirm for me that these directories/folders have files in them, what they are called, And if possible can they be moved from one PC to another (eg. from a friends)? Or are they directories only relative to the persons PC? Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks!

Defiantly worth a try. Seems to have solved his problems.
I tend not to use products like driver sweeper unless I encounter
problems. I just use windows add remove programs, no issues.
Another thing you could try is to search the cab files on the
disk and see if you can't find what your looking for there. Google
might be of help there.

Hi, thanks for the reply :), I have just grabbed those directories off a friend and trying it now... (fingers crossed!).......

EDIT: It says I need permission to perform this action......... They are security protected files. access denied.... I am the administrator. When I try to set it to all access for me. Its says access denied.

I can't take ownership of these files. I think that the PC thinks I'm trying to hack into important files or something. Access Denied again. I can copy the files, but I can't paste new ones into the folders. Read and execute and that's it I think.

How about drag and drop them in place?
If your taking them from one folder to another.

I'm not sure of the particulars of what you are doing.
Just a thought.

I tried that already, Thats how I know what files are broken. It was unable to fix them. So I got the files off another PC. Its the c:\Windows\winsxs... Very important stuff. Might require a fresh install again (again) if I can't get it working....

Looks like I'll have to be really careful next time with Driver Sweeper and the files it removes.

The way to delete stubborn files is to turn off UAC. Start, then type in window 'uac'. You should get the one entry about changing the UAC setting. Move the slider all the way down. Restart, and delete away. Depending on your other habits, you might want to set UAC back up, and restart again.

Microsoft is far too stupid to implement a permissions/ownership method correctly. A binary switch is the limit.
