Just upgraded to windows 7 - no porblems. Installed Battlefield Bad company 2 and it runs fine. Went to play BF2142 and all is well until connecting to a server then the sound drops and is not heard of again in the game - once abck in windows sound returns! My dell XPS has a Sigma Tel Audio Codec that works fine in Windows 7 but now not when in BF2142 - any suggestions?

Right click the Microsoft speaker icon, select "playback devices" look at the communications tab, try selecting "Do Nothing".

No go - just did it and the game has sound right unitl it connects to a server - the sound then sounds like a cd stuck for 3 - 5 seconds and then goes completely dead.

That's all I got... sounds like a possible conflict between the audio and network adapter... the stuck CD thing is sometimes indicative of an IRQ or address conflict.

Do you get noise, stutters or pops when browsing on line or streaming audio with video? If not, that kind of shoots the conflict idea.

Can you get back to the OS after the game is running, you might be able to disable/enable audio in device manager and see if it comes back, doubtful though as by then, BBC2 has lost contact with the audio drivers.

I'm not a gamer so I'm not going to be much help at this point, maybe someone else can jump in here.

What are your in game audio settings? With that sound card (or any onboard for that matter) and that game it should be set to software only and no higher than medium.

okay - progress (backwards?) when I went into 'audio' in the game settings the sound dropped immediately. It is set to software only and medium but there is sound at the start and right up until I connect to a server - or - enter the 'sound' options. The mud doth get deeper!

Sounds more like what you have is the Sigmtel onboard audio, and it came with the Audigy software (also known as Audigy MB). Either that or it came with an Audigy installed (only know of one or two motherboards that ever came with Audigy onboard, and Dell isn't one of them), but the onboard Sigmatel has been enabled in the bios and the drivers for it installed.

If it is an actual Audigy would need to know which one before telling you which driver for it.

Looking at the Dell site, a couple of different Audigy cards were available as options. Audigy SE and Audigy 2.

Well, no luck with Dell so I've purchased a Soundblaster Audigy card for the pc - should have done it ages ago really - I'll finally get rid of the Sigma Tel on board sound. Thanks for all the guidance.

Delete the Sigma Tel drivers reboot and disable onboard audio in the BIOS and you should be good to go.

Good luck with the Audigy.
