I need to repair my EFI boot sector as I cannot boot Windows. I put my install disk in and booted from that. When I click on Repair your computer, I get this error message - "This version of System Recovery Options is not compatable with the version of Windows you are trying to repair. Try using a recovery disk that is compatable with this version of Windows."

The disk I used is the one I installed Win 7 with a week ago.

I tried to open a console, but my keyboard is not live at this point in the process, so no responce.

I don't have another computer to download a rescue disk on, and I have files in this partition I don't want to loose. I am using my tablet to look for help. How do I fix the `boot sector?

Do you know for sure you have uefi or is it mbr? if its 2 disk are the boot files all on the first disk or are you using a boot manager

It is UEFI and Linux uses GRUB2 to boot. When Linux installedI saw a boot sector being setup, so I was supprises when Windows would nt boot. Linux can see the Windows Boot Manager in GRUB2, but fails to boot. I am not using a boot manager. At this point I have disconnected the Linux drive znd want to get Windows working.

Can we get a screenshot of the disk management so we can see? It's down to are all boot files on the windows disk or are the loaders on the Linux disk? Using fix boot fix mbr etc may fix it

"I tried to open a console, but my keyboard is not live at this point in the process, so no response."

When I boot with the install disk and click Repair, I get the error stated in my original post. When I use CTL+F10 to open a console I get no response. The keyboard has LED lit keys, and they are off. The keyboard is not live at that point. I cannot get to the Repair menu to open a console. Windows will not boot at all so I cannot access a console. In other words, I cannot get a screenshot of disk management because I cannot even get to a command line, much less disk management.

I would just reinstall Win7 but I have files on that drive I do not want to lose.

Your big mistake was to install Linux without disconnecting the Win 7 drive.
The Linux boot loader can now be on Win 7 disk.
On a UEFI - GPT disk you have a UEFI Fat 32 partition with all boot loaders. It can have the Win 7 and the Linux boot loaders.

Disconnect the Linux disk, and boot. During POST, launch the boot menu (F?). What options do you have on the boot menu?

YES! I discconnected the Linux drive, rebooted to the Windows Boot Manager and hit F8 during post.
That brought up the boot menu and I chose to revert to the last stable state and I have Wiin7 running now.

Now I need to get back to Linus with the Windows drive disconnected and get that boot drive fixed.

Thanks!
