Having issues with my copy of Win 7 Home Premium. I've been running it fine since August , the computer was built by me and I installed a copy of Win 7 home premium 64bit OEM from a local retailer. Today, after uninstalling Norton Anti-Virus and installing AVG I received the message in the bottom right corner you're probably familiar with, "Win 7 Build 7601 this copy of Windows is not genuine".

This IS a genuine copy of Win 7, but trying to re-activate it's not taking the product key. I even went as far as purchasing a second for the same software and it's not taking that key either.

below is the MGADiag info

As usual Norton has HOSED another system. More then likely the Uninstalling of Norton has screwed up something on your system.

Did you get the Symantec/Norton uninstall tool from their website and or follow all the instructions on their website to properly remove the POS software.

Also in the text you posted it says the Windows License type is Retail. Instead of OEM. That could be the problem as you are using an OEM key.

But in the end it was more then Likely the uninstalling of Norton that screwed it up.

I believe I just went into the programs and feature in the control panel, found Norton, clicked and it opened up Norton.

After a few ads and a couple "We're sorry to see you go..." pop-ups it uninstalled and I proceeded to install AVG.

Even if I didn't go via the control panel, I never went to their website, I was unaware I had to do so.

Sounds like Norton has a bit of reputation...

But in the end it was more then Likely the uninstalling of Norton that screwed it up.

Could that be that the second key I received (and the latest I tried) was purchased directly from Microsoft? The box I have here (The first key) isn't a full, shiny-looking retail box.

Yes then it could.

You could try doing a Repair install. It may or may not fix the problem.

I'll have a go, and report back if problems are still present!

Also, since the disc I have is an OEM version, will I need a Win 7 ISO for the standard instillation disc?

You may. Although it seems Win 7 is a little less picky on what media you use and is more dependent on the key used.

You can get a ISO of the retail Win 7 version key you have from My Digital Life. Sorry don't have a direct link to it.

Thats fine, I'll try going with my disc, and I've managed to find the My Digital Life link, thanks!

Let's concentrate on the MGA results, please - Much as I hate Norton, it's often NOT responsible for this particular error.

There is almost certainly NO NEED for a repair install!

I suppose my quick trip to the shops before doing the install actually saved me a bit of time, eh?

Might be worth noting that I cannot get a hold of the original key for the OEM disc I have used to install windows. The case was damaged in a small fire not so long back, and key recovery programs are only able to pick up the latest one used - the one I just got off Microsoft for Win 7.

Possibly :)

First - did you actually uninstall Norton? If so, did you also run the Norton Removal Tool at the time?

Second - I am concerned that you say you purchased OEM, while the Key installed here is Retail. Does the Key for your OEM end in TVJYG ?? If so, then you either purchased a counterfeit, or your vendor accidentally gave you a retail package (not likely!!) - please describe the packaging, and compare it with the examples here... How to Tell - What to look for

Third - Your problem may be soluble by rebuilding the licensing store....

Please first try recreating Licensing Store.

Recreate the Licensing Store
Go to Start > All Programs > Accessories
Right-Click on Command Prompt and select Run as Administrator - accept the UAC prompt
Run the following commands in the Command Prompt window, using the Enter key at the end of each

net stop sppsvc
(wait until the service has stopped before entering the following lines)

Code:
CD %windir%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SoftwareProtectionPlatform
REN tokens.dat tokens.bar
net start sppsvc
slui.exe

After a couple of seconds Windows Activation dialog will appear.
You may be asked to re-activate and/or re-enter your product key or Activation may occur automatically.
If you are asked for your Key, use the one on the COA sticker on the machine's case

Reboot and Post back with a new MGADiag report

Reboot and Post back with a new MGADiag report

I uninstalled via the Programs and features menu within the control panel, I'm not sure if that opened the Norton Removal Tool, I know that I didn't open the tool myself.

The key would say retail because it is a new key, purchased from Microsoft today. As my above post said, I no longer have access to the key packaged with the OEM version of Windows, the sticker packaged with the box was destroyed shortly after purchase and was never applied to the case for reference.

I'll check back with results from your 3rd point soon.

My Computer

OS
Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit
Went to input the key, Error Code 0x8007000D telling me the data is invalid. Double checked, code is good.

Could this be a retail key clashing with a version of windows installed via an OEM disc?

My Computer

OS
Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit
Ah - The Key does make sense, then.

You really do need to apply the NRT -
Download the Norton Removal Tool from here https://www-secure.symantec.com/norton-support/jsp/help-solutions.jsp?lg=english&ct=united+states&docid=20080710133834EN&product=home&version=1&pvid=f-home

Close all other programs, then run the tool. When it's complete, reboot the machine whether it asks for it or not.

After the reboot, open an Elevated Command Prompt, and run the following command

NETSH WINSOCK RESET

You'll be advised to reboot - do so.
then post another MGADiag report.
