Win 7 - Can't see slave drive

Hi all,

I just bought a new hard drive + Win 7, installed Win 7, and have now attached another drive that would not boot properly (has winxp OS on it)

Windows 7 doesn't seem to be able to 'see' the slave drive, is there anything else I need to do to let Win 7 see the slave drive?

What kind of HD's IDE, SATA, etc.

Does it show up it the Bios boot up screen ?

Other hardware specs would help.

Hi, these are two SATA drives, the one with the Win 7 OS is 1TB, the slave 250G, I also have a CD drive and a DVD/CD burner drive - 2 Gigs RAM.

In the BIOS I see Drive 0 to Drive 3 , SATA 0 to SATA 3. I don't see any mention of my western digital slave drive.

Check your WD 250gb slave for Data & Power cable connections. Just recently one member actually had a bad SATA data cable

Also try a different SATA port on MB.

DocBrown, how is it possible to 'check' these cables. Can you indicate from my pictures where the other SATA ports are please, I don't understand how to do that.

I think I only have one power connection(see pic) could that be the problem or is that normal?

Looks like you are missing the data cable to the top HD ???

P3 & P5 connections are the HD power cable connections :huh:

The blue data cable only has one connection point on it not two like the power cable, are you saying I need to go out and buy a data cable with two connection points? Why would the power cable have two connection points and the data one only have one?

SATA Data cables only have 1 connection on each end, I have not seen a dual SATA as yet. You need another single SATA Data cable. Red, Blue, Orange, yellow, whatever color you can get

YES !

or try the sata cable from your CD drive now to see if makes the slave recognized . you can do with out the CD for temporary testing, right ????
