Hi new to this forum,
I've just uninstalled avast off my laptop and installed Microsoft Essentials and when it went to run the inital scan the whole comp crashed. I couldn't bring up task manager or anything, I've tried restarting but I can only get as far as my desktop and before anything gets a chance to load up it crashes again.

I've got a legit copy of 7 32bit and did a fresh install has been working perfectly until now on my ASUS x59 Gl series.

Has anybody out there got a clue what has happened and how I can fix it.

I'm writing this off another laptop in my house.

Are you able to boot to from your Windows 7 disc?

If your machine is unstable at startup, maybe try a repair install.

Cheers for the advice,
Don't get BSOD just freezes. Did a system restore and re-downloaded to try again installed and updated fine then when I went to run first scan it stalled and froze. Gone back to Avast for now bu I've heard good reviews about this so would like to try it out.

Perhaps Avast left pieces of itself behind when you uninstalled it.

I would suggest uninstalling it with Revo Uninstaller, and running an extended scan.
