Win 7 Deletes all System Restore Points

Here's a new one.

In a nutshell, the problem is caused by a highly fragmented paging file.
Cure is to disable, delete, and recreate.

Hi Karlsnooks. Great post -I only hope that if I run across this
problem, I will be able to remember it. (CRS you know!)

As I read the article you referred us to, I started to
do a slow burn. The time to find out that all your restore points
are missing is probable going to happen just when you need them.
Nobody checks regularily if they are there!!!

Fixing the paging File at that point is akin to closing the barn
door after the horses have bolted. You would think a little warning
message would be in order.

I agree with you. There should be a built-in check for an excessively fragmented paging file and/or a warning that one is close to loosing restore points due to over-fragmentation.

This is something that the Operation System should take care of without us ever have to do anything.

I think that the currrent version of contig.exe from the sysinternals folk will defragment the paging file by telling it to defrag pagefile.sys but I've not tried this.

A question in my mind is that for those of us who use SSDs is: Is this really ever a concern for us?

Can't answer question about SSD drives - no experience as yet.

Guess I'll have to make sure that I do System Images more ofter. lol
