Please Help Anyone, I have been troubleshooting this setup for days with no luck. I have Win7 64bit Professional I am useing a DIR-825 Router with a gigabyte D-link switch downstairs to Xbox 360, everything is hard wired cat-5e. It was all working great for over a year now until one day I got the bright :confused:Idea I would update all my drivers and also install SP1 I also updated the firmware on the router. This is a media server so it rarely even gets accessed so it was a little behind. Now every time I connect Xbox to media center I have to reconfigure. If I exit media center extender and then try to enter the connection is gone and my computer starts having trouble even seeing the Xbox. If I unplug the Xbox and plug directly into the second motherboard Ethernet port it works awesome. So I figured router trouble. I purchased a new Cisco e4200 and made it work for 2 days then boom no more connection same problem. I have Macrium Reflect disk imaging so I have went back 2 months to when I knew everything was working and I am still experiencing the same problem. I still am Leary of some sort of router setting that I set 3 years ago and have since forgotten and got wiped out when I updated the Firmware. I am back on the old d-link router with the old firmware pre SP1 and still having the same trouble. Sorry for the wordiness.

I have completly reloaded my home server with win7. Which was binaficial since thier was a lot of things that need updated. I also found the solution to my problem on this website however it is rather unbelievable. When Media center would not connect I would disconnect the cable from the router and connect directly to a seperate ethernet port on the computer and everything would work. Keep in mind that when hooked to the router the only thing not working was media center. The computer still worked flawlessly and i could remote desktop and everyrthing. The xbox worked perfectly except media center. What I found not by testing or proving electricaly, was that my ethernet cable from the main computer to the router was some how causing the problem. After a full reload and still the same problem I replaced this one 6 foot cable and instantly media center started working. I however am to scared to test it with the old cable, I did however volt meter the old cable and could not find any shorts must be in the twist or a short that comes and goes, I dont know.

I'm glad a simple cable fixed your problem. If you desires to test a cable even farther, do a wiggle test. With your DVM hooked up start wiggling the cable where it is inserted and then start bending in in various spots and see if you get different readings.
In the automotive repair world this is used to test harnesses (conglomerate of wires) which can cost over a thousand dollars plus instillation.
