I would try to reinstall the firewire driver by removing it in device manager and rebooting the computer. Make sure the camera is not plugged in then once windows has done installing the firewire ports check it by going back into device manager then plug in the camera and see if it is found by windows inside the device manager.

Well with looking at your pic you have all the drivers installed, because if there was a firewire driver being needed it would show up under the IEEE 1394 with a yellow icon on it. I would try a different software package and see if you can capture off some other type of software.

It maybe turned off in the Autoplay section. Go to control panel and look for something like Autoplay it might be inside the Action Center, I really wish my laptop was with me Im at work and dont have a Windows7 machine with me so Im guessing where to find it. You can also try to right click the Sony cam in the device and see if there is an import option.

I wonder if you can help me with a very similar problem??

I too am unable to capture video from my Sony miniDV camcorder. I am running Windows 7 on a laptop and have a firewire card plugged into the side. The Device Manager can see both the firewire card and the camcorder. The Devices and Printers window on the Control Panel can see the camcorder too, but when I tried to follow the instructions from DarkXeno to go to the Autoplay window the camcorder is not shown under Devises? I had a look there after I had tried to capture from Windows Live Photo Gallery. At first I thought it was going to work, but the programme just hung. Obviously it couldn't see the device?

Any advise will be well received

Of all of the things that happen with PCs I will never understand how they operate?

I have just reconnected and switched on my camcorder for the 3rd or 4th time and gone through the capture procedure and it has worked! I did everything exactly as I had done it before! I have now captured some of the video I have been trying to do for ages..

I still have to thank you for the info that led me to success at last :D

HOW TO DETECT & IMPORT from SONY DCR-HC52 into MOVIE MAKER WIN 77

I came across this EXTREMELY HELPFUL INFO THAT COMPLETELY WORKED FOR ME!

  • Click Windows Start orb; type "device manager" into the Search box and select Device Manager (or launch Device Manager anyway you like)
  • Swivel open the "IEEE 1394 Bus host controllers" item
  • Right-click on your listed 1394 controller; select "Update Driver Software"
  • Click the "Browse my computer for driver software" button, followed by the "Let me pick from a list" button
  • Select the option that has "(Legacy)" at the end of the name; click Next and let the driver be installed
  • Close out of dialogs and retry capture
That original thread can be found here: Adobe Community: Premiere CS5 (win7 x64) won't recognize my Mini-DV camcorder.

I HAD TO SHARE this AS this DID allow me to IMPORT from my Sony mini-dv INTO movie maker!:D
